00:00The Lost Chambers Atlantis and the Environmental Health and Safety Department teamed up for
00:16a native fish release at Nasimi Beach on the Palm to raise awareness of ocean conservation.
00:20The initiative aims to boost local fish stocks by raising native fish species and releasing
00:24them into the sea. The fish being released were cultured by the Marine Resource Research
00:28Center of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
00:31Today is World Oceans Day, so as part of World Oceans Day we're doing a fish release. On
00:37Friday we were celebrating in the aquarium, teaching the general public conservation,
00:42especially the younger children because that's where we believe the conservation starts.
00:47As well as looking after the animals in exhibits, we're very committed to looking after the
00:50animals in the ocean here and keeping the stocks at a healthy and sustainable level.
00:55So we see what we're doing here today as an important part of that and this is just
00:59a small one that we started with and we plan to do a lot more in the future as well. We
01:05feel this is a very important part for everyone that comes to Dubai.
01:10These are called silvery black porgies. They're very small but they'll grow a lot bigger.
01:13The Ministry of Environment and Water are doing a fantastic job at actually producing
01:18these animals and breeding them and getting them ready for release. So we're going to
01:21be working very closely with them over the coming months and then after the summer when
01:25the water cools down a little bit we'll do another bigger release then.
01:33The public was invited to take part in this initiative and many were on hand at the event
01:36showing that preservation and conservation of our local marine life has taken root in
01:40our community, especially amongst the youth.
