00:10Former people died of MERS in Saudi Arabia, taking the total death toll in the kingdom
00:14to 121 since the disease, a form of coronavirus, was identified two years ago, the health ministry
00:20has said. 18 new cases of MERS have been detected in the kingdom, pushing the total number of
00:24infections so far to 449.
00:28Scientists in the US have taken a significant step to create an organism with DNA containing
00:32an artificial genetic code. They have added two letters to the code that forms a chemical
00:36blueprint for life by modifying a bacterium and replicating two DNA ingredients that are
00:41not found in nature. The accomplishment might eventually lead to organisms that can make
00:46medicines or industrial products that cells with only the natural genetic code cannot.
00:52Pro-Russian activists may consider a proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to delay
00:56the referendum on Sunday. Separatist leaders in Donetsk and Luhansk say they will put the
01:01matter before people's councils.
01:03Emirates Group has reported a profit of 4.1 billion dirhams for the 2013-14 financial
01:10year, a 32% increase. Revenue jumped 13% at the group to 87.8 billion dirhams. Emirates
01:17Airlines was the largest contributor to group revenue, reporting 82.6 billion dirhams, the
01:22first time it has surpassed 80 billion dirhams. The airline operations declared a profit of
01:273.3 billion dirhams, up 43% on the previous year.
01:32The release of the long-delayed 3D film Kochadayan, starring South Indian superstar Rajinikanth,
01:37was postponed at the 11th hour on Wednesday evening ahead of its May 8 release in the
01:41UAE. The film was supposed to have been released on May 9 in India and the rest of the world.
01:46Eros International, the film's global distributor, issued a statement late on Wednesday evening
01:51citing unexpected technical issues related to multiple languages in 2D and 3D for the
01:56postponement.
