00:00It's a really interesting part. It's something I've never done before. It's a period film
00:12based in the 70s and the early 80s. It's based on a really historical time in India which
00:18was the Bangladesh war. And during the Bangladesh war, you know, these two boys who are, you
00:24know, who grow up in that really turbulent time and the war really affects them. What
00:28happens in their lives once, of course, I come into it and where their life goes. It's
00:34basically a romantic drama. I play a cabaret dancer and cabaret dancers are always trouble
00:40so that's what I am.
00:41Vikram and Bala.
00:42Vikram and Bala, the biggest goondas of Calcutta.
00:46In essence, they stem from the fact that in their childhood, they become refugees when
00:50Bangladesh gets formed. They end up being on the Indian side. The system doesn't recognize
00:55them as people at that point of time because they don't have an identity of their own.
00:59And the kind of journey they have to undertake to make an identity for themselves. So when
01:03something doesn't get given to you, the level, the extent you will go to achieve your own
01:07identity, that's where goondas start with. We celebrate cinema in its quintessential
01:12commercial format where there is song, dance, there is drama, there is action. But the germ
01:17stems from the 1971 independence movement of Bangladesh. And in today's day and age,
01:25we do make commercial masala films in our country but it's time we move ahead. Along
01:29with that, don't make it mindless. I think we can engage an audience's sensibility and
01:33mind. So when you come to watch a two and a half hour film, you are entertained but
01:36when you leave the theater, there is a thought that still seeps within you. So you dwell
01:41over all those factors along with the fact that you were entertained for those three
01:44hours. So I think goondas are a step towards that direction.
01:47I think we have such a great legacy of two hero films. It's rather unfortunate that in
01:51the recent past, no two young heroes have been able to come together to collaborate.
01:55But I'm so proud that I'm one half of this collaboration. We've had Sholay, which is
02:00like, you know, the iconic film.
02:01Ram Lakhan.
02:02Ram Lakhan.
02:03Andaz Apna.
02:04Tiwar.
02:05Tiwar.
02:06Kalapatar had three heroes for that matter. This is the quintessential Yash Chopra cinema
02:10that he started out with.
02:11Karan Arjun.
02:12Karan Arjun.
02:13Yeah, that's right.
02:14And Akshay Kumar and Saif are the last two people who worked together in tandem.
02:17When they did Mein Kehlari Toh Anari or they did Attachan a few years back. But it's been
02:22a while. And I think, I guess if we both manage to pull this off, we'll open the floodgates
02:27for our generation at least. We can't speak of the generation before us, but after us,
02:31they won't be insecure about getting into a film as long as the script shows you that
02:36you have equal footing. And that's what Ali did really well.
02:39They're super fun. And they have a great bromance, you know, they get along really well. And
02:43the three of us get along really well. And we had so much fun on the movie because, you
02:46know, we're friends and we know each other outside of the movie too. So it was just really
02:51great to have that kind of energy on set and really get along. Whether it was Ali, me and
02:56the boys. And being the only girl on set is always fun.
02:58When a director narrates a film or a journey like Gundit to you like that, with so much
03:02detailing, that iota of insecurity that you should be feeling will not come in because
03:07I think we both are pretty secure of what we bring to the table as actors. We both are
03:10secure about our own talents. And he put us at ease saying that he knows how to take
03:14care of both of us in the film together.
03:16Well, I have a lot of, without giving away too much, a lot of, you know, layers in the
03:22movie and a lot of colour in the movie. And it was really interesting to do that. The
03:27dancing was great fun. I love dancing. But to be able to bring about, you know, all the
03:32layers that I needed to in the movie, I think that was hard.
03:34I think as an avid follower of Hindi cinema, I look forward to two hero films. I have loved
03:40all Hindi films. Ram Lakhan, Karan Rai. Some of my favourite films are two hero films.
03:43We just don't see them anymore. So as an avid follower, I would look forward to a two hero
03:47film. And I'm glad that that has been the response.
03:49I'm glad we are the ones who have done this. I like the fact that we've set a trend.
03:53Yeah.
03:54We're trending.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Hashtag baby. Hashtag.
03:58If the place of Jigar is Jigar and there is strength in Jigar, then stop it.
04:02This attitude is in our blood. Nothing happens if you bark.
