00:10A mysterious fish that lives in the deep part of the sea named Palangoylangoy in the shallow part of the sea in Spain.

00:30This is the Humpback Anglerfish or Sea Devil.

00:33Researchers of Condric Tenerife, a shark and stingray research organization,

00:38were able to find this fish while doing their research in Tenerife Sea in Canary Island in Spain.

00:47This is probably the first time that a mysterious fish has been spotted in the shallow part of the sea.

00:54The Humpback Anglerfish is found in the deep part of the sea where it is almost not popular anymore.

01:01But why was the Humpback Anglerfish found in the shallow part of the sea in Spain?

01:05The Humpback Anglerfish or Melanocetus jonsonii was first discovered in 1860 near Matera in northwestern Africa by the English naturalist James Yates Johnson.

01:20This fish is considered by sexual dimorphism.

01:23This means that the external appearance of female anglerfish is different from that of male anglerfish.

01:27Male anglerfish are smaller, only 1 inch long, and they are not predatory.

01:33While female anglerfish have a lamp or dorsal appendage.

01:36It is full of bacteria, which is the reason for it to illuminate or glow.

01:40This light is what anglerfish use to attract their prey.

01:45According to Condric Tenerife, the Humpback Anglerfish that they encountered is not yet explained why it was found in the shallow part of the sea.

01:52But they believe that it may have escaped from predators, accompanied by sharks, or it may be sick.

01:57A few hours after it was filmed, the fish came back to life.

02:01That's why it was brought to the Museum of Nature and Archeology in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to be studied.
