00:00A welcome for new Defence families, firmly focused on the children.
00:07The large turnout, a reminder that Darwin is a garrison town.
00:11We've only been here for about a month, but I'm really loving it so far.
00:15The weather's a bit of an adjustment.
00:16And that the Defence lifestyle can be a challenge, especially for partners.
00:22My partner was away for the last six months, so me and the two little bubs at home was
00:29an interesting experience.
00:31What's it like moving around?
00:33Really, really, like, just annoying.
00:39So local community groups and support networks make themselves known.
00:44There's a focus on making connections and a little fun.
00:48I've met a few kids.
00:51We've gone, we've played, I've done VR.
00:54I've done so many fun things today and I'll never forget about it.
00:57It's been really fun that I've been going to new places
01:02and been able to do things that other kids aren't able to.
01:08Because you can learn about different things on spaceships and some marines.
01:14There's around 5,000 Defence Force members posted in Darwin,
01:18with staggered rotations throughout the year.
01:21And the Darwin community is first class.
01:23They just, we know that we can go away and do what we need to do,
01:27sometimes leaving our families at home for a while
01:29and they'll be incredibly well supported by the Darwin community.
01:32And the partners of the Defence members are really vital
01:35for the employment and prosperity of the territory.
01:39A community stepping up to make its newest residents feel at home.
