00:00Two police officers and a barangay officer were arrested in Manticao, Misamis Oriental

00:05for driving illegally.

00:07One of them is a suspended police staff sergeant in Iligan City

00:11while the other is an active police staff master sergeant in Davao de Oro.

00:15They were arrested in 8 cases and their vehicle was stopped by the police.

00:20The bags containing minerals, guns, and bullets were confiscated.

00:25They were arrested by the Manticao Police and were able to face several cases.

00:33The Department of Agriculture allowed the removal of onions

00:37to avoid a higher price of up to Php 200 per kilo.

00:42But a group is questioning why, even now,

00:44when there are people who are starting to harvest onions,

01:20The price of white onions is up to Php 150 per kilo if local

01:24and up to Php 160 if imported.

01:27In mid-January, the price suddenly increased to Php 140 per kilo.

01:32Now, in February, it's Php 180 to Php 160 per kilo.

01:38To avoid a higher price,

01:41the Department of Agriculture has stopped harvesting red and white onions.

01:46According to the Bureau of Plant Industry,

01:48even if there is a sufficient supply of onions,

01:50it is still recommended to import to avoid a higher price.

01:55Because of the recent floods and the spread of pests and diseases,

01:59it is necessary to import to serve as a buffer stock in case of shortage.

02:03It was allowed to harvest 3,000 metric tons of red onions

02:07and 1,000 metric tons of white onions.

02:10It should arrive before February 20.

02:14The plant will run out by the first week of February.

02:18The stocks that are available now,

02:21there are some that are already harvested, but not that many.

02:25The Secretary wants to avoid the prices of onions that are too high.

02:33The Department of Agriculture or SINAG asked

02:36why it will be imported now,

02:38as some are starting to harvest onions.

02:41We don't have a problem if it will be imported if it is really needed.

02:44But usually, that is at the time of the harvest,

02:49in the month of July, August, September.

02:51If the import arrives in two weeks' time,

02:54that will be the peak harvest.

02:56The import is very small, only 4,000,

03:06there will be no shortage of supplies.

03:23there is still no LGU requesting rice from the buffer stock of rice

03:27of the National Food Authority or NFA.

03:30According to the NFA,

03:33more than 700,000 sacks of milled rice can be released.

03:37But they think that due to the funds and their own process,

03:40LGUs will be able to buy rice from the NFA for a long time.

03:45And if LGUs buy the buffer stock of rice,

03:48it will be sold to the public for P35 per kilo.
