Shivering frost marks my casement,
Bearing the cold in a cabin of heavy drowse,
A lukewarm glow taps at the windowpanes,
Dwindled from the prolonged winter's chill.

I peer near, observing the pines,
Their bark, numb to the cold, endures firm,
Wondering how the trees stand upright,
Not bent over in the mushy snow and freezing air.

Sorrow hails in hollow streets, seeking warmth,
Blizzard weather calls upon the unfortunate,
A muse ponders the souls that wander,
This year, a misty wisp lingers.

Winged life takes shade in covered saplings.
Small canines and felines stray, searching,
In hope of finding a home or a cozy snug,
The wintry haze falls in an iridescent blight.

As the mist drifts, those fond of winter's reverie
Gather firewood and logs, praise apricity,
Neither dejected by trial nor hurdles;
Amidst the polar day, few weary slumber.\n\nM. B. Aster
