00:00The ground-breaking and capsule-laying ceremony of the new International Port in the province of Cebu

00:06was held formally, hoping to help in the logistics and economy of Central Visayas.

00:12That's the center of the news of Jesse Atienza of PTV Cebu.

00:18Here, in the 25 hectare area of the town of Consolacion,

00:22the new Cebu International Container Port or NCICP will be built.

00:27The Department of Transportation, Secretary Jaime Bautista,

00:32officials of the Cebu Ports Authority,

00:34along with the members of the private sector,

00:37led the ground-breaking and capsule-laying ceremony.

00:40Undersecretary Terence Calatrava,

00:44Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas,

00:48and leaders of the province of Cebu, also joined the activity.

00:51Cebu is poised to be the next economic powerhouse,

00:56second only to Manila.

00:58However, for this potential to be fully harnessed,

01:03we need the right infrastructure.

01:06The current Cebu Base Port can only accommodate so much.

01:11The increasing demand for efficient cargo handling and logistic solutions

01:17had made this project not just necessary but imperative.

01:22With the help of the new Cebu International Container Port,

01:26it will be able to distribute international container volume from Cebu Port.

01:33It will also facilitate the delivery of products and services.

01:37This event marks the start of a monumental undertaking

01:42that will transform not only the cargo gateway of the Central Visayas Region,

01:49but also the trajectory of Cebu's economic landscape.

01:55The NCICP is more than just a port.

01:59It is a symbol of progress, collaboration, and our collective commitment

02:06to enhancing the efficiency and reliability of our nation's infrastructure.

02:12The estimated value of the project, which is expected to be operational in 2028,

02:21will also be helped by the NCICP,

02:24which will be able to provide additional income to the LGU,

02:27the consulate, and the residents.
