00:00Hundreds protested on Tuesday in Washington against a visit by Israeli Prime Minister
00:05Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:06We are also here to demand that our government comply with international arrest warrants
00:12by the ICC and the ICJ.
00:15The U.S. is not an ICC member state, it therefore has no legal obligation to arrest Netanyahu.
00:22And while the Israeli Prime Minister was still in Washington, Donald Trump chose to attack
00:27the ICC, signing an executive order with sanctions.
00:32The order said that the court has opened without a legitimate basis preliminary investigations
00:38concerning personnel of the United States and certain of its allies, including Israel,
00:44and has further abused its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants.
00:49Founded in 2002, the first permanent international criminal court is the heritage of other international
00:56courts set up after World War II, but it has faced criticism.
01:01The various courts established since the 1990s have really convicted vanishingly few people.
01:08The first trial was of a person who recruited child soldiers, but there haven't been very
01:14many cases like that at the ICC.
01:17The EU says Donald Trump's attack on the ICC will undermine the international criminal
01:23justice system.
01:25Previously, the court was weakened when Russian President Vladimir Putin was able to travel
01:30despite an arrest warrant against him.
01:33The international criminal court does not have universal jurisdiction.
01:37The ICC says it stands by its employees after Donald Trump ordered asset freezes and travel
01:44bans against them.
01:46The court said it will continue to carry out its duties, calling on its 125 member states
01:52to remain united for justice.
