00:00Senate President Francis Chis Escudero cried. The Senate acted on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte

00:08on the return of the session in June. Here is Daniel Manalastas' report.

00:15Can the special session really start the process of impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte?

00:22Yesterday, Senate President Francis Escudero said that the session is needed to convene the impeachment court.

00:29The Senate adjourned on Wednesday and it was not discussed in the plenary.

00:34For the impeachment court to convene, the Senate needs to have a session.

00:39For the impeachment of judges, the Senate needs to have a session.

00:45Although the trial can proceed even if it is recessed,

00:50just like what happened to the former Chief Justice Corona,

00:55the judges should be allowed to convene and have a session.

01:01If there will be an action, it will happen on June 2, when the Senate will resume its session.

01:11But former Senate President Franklin Rilon said that the President can call for a special session

01:18so that the Senate can fulfill its constitutional duty for impeachment.

01:23He said that calling for a special session to discuss impeachment is a sole prerogative of the President,

01:31which cannot be questioned.

01:33But Escudero asked Rilon, what is the problem? Why do we need a remedy?

01:38The impeachment of the Senate was adjourned a few hours before it was adjourned.

01:43The time is not enough for it to be considered.

01:46In the continuation of the session on June, they will act on it.

01:50They will follow the legal process and they will not hasten or delay it.

01:56Escudero said, the punishment is to be removed from the position and absolute perpetual disqualification

02:03for holding a public office, imprisoning or appointing.

02:07This is in case the impeachment court proves that VP Sara is guilty.

02:17So, President Marcos can choose a congressman or senator who is 40 years old and above.
