00:00This is your morning update for Friday 7 February 2025, brought to you by the Edinburgh Evening News.
00:08Edinburgh Council sets up independent review of its handling of Cammy Day allegations.
00:14Former Scottish Information Commissioner Kevin Doonian has been appointed to carry out an independent review of Edinburgh City Council's handling of allegations against former council leader Cammy Day,
00:25and the remit of the review was widened to include potential historic complaints against other councillors.
00:30It came as Councillor Day was stripped of several roles at a council meeting.
00:34Mr Day resigned as council leader in December over allegations he had sent sexually explicit messages to Ukrainian refugees.
00:41During Thursday's full council meeting, a report suggesting the appointment of Kevin Doonian as the leader of the independent review was supported by councillors.
00:50The review would have originally looked solely at historic and recent allegations made against Councillor Day, and the process by which information about his alleged misconduct was leaked.
00:59After a consensus was reached between the administration and other party groups, the review will be expanded to include allegations against all councillors from 2003 onwards.
