00:09Violent domestic abuser who repeatedly ran over wife in Edinburgh jailed.
00:14An Edinburgh man who attempted to murder his estranged wife by repeatedly driving over her has been jailed.
00:20William Budge, 62, caused life-threatening injuries to his former wife when he drove over her twice on April 14th 2024 in Muirhouse Parkway, three weeks after she ended their 33-year marriage.
00:34At the High Court in Edinburgh today, February 5th, Budge was jailed for seven years and four months.
00:39A non-harassment order banning him from contacting or attempting to contact the victim was granted for a period of 15 years.
00:48Proposal to build student flats on site of Trainspotting 2 scrapyard refused.
00:53Proposals to build new student flats on a scrapyard in Leith, featured in Trainspotting 2, have been refused over concerns over flooding.
01:00Plans first lodged in late 2023 would have seen a scrapyard at the corner of Salamander Street and Salamander Place demolished and 46 student flats developed, providing housing for 230 students as well as 46 private units.
01:16But on Wednesday the proposals, which had faced local opposition, were thrown out by councillors after officers said that the proposed flat block failed to meet parts of Edinburgh's development plan.
01:26A local councillor said it was the right decision for Leith residents after locals raised concerns over the abundance of student housing and lack of affordable units in the area.
