The Glassworks in Wordsley has just opened after a large amount of money has been spent on it. We call in to say hello.
Transcript
00:00We're here at the Glassworks, Wordsley, and introduce yourself, sir.
00:03I'm Ed Hancock, and I'm Chief Development Officer for Marston.
00:07So, just fill us in on what's happened here at the Glassworks.
00:09It's had a few pounds spent on it, hasn't it?
00:12Yeah, no, we've spent some money on one of our great local pubs to create a two-door format.
00:18Within that, we create a great area for people to come and socialise, to drink, to watch sport.
00:24And I have a relaxing drink with their colleagues or friends or family.
00:29On the other side of the door, it is more of what we call a family pub.
00:33So, it's an area where people can come and dine, have great food, great service, and celebrate occasions.
00:39So, that section just over your shoulder there, previously, this was all one big open-plan area then, yeah?
00:45It was one complete open-plan area.
00:48And, of course, what we find is if we don't create the segregation, occasions can clash.
00:53So, let's say we're also playing West Brom on a Sunday, and people are getting agitated in front of the telly.
00:58That may not be what you want to hear if you're celebrating your mum's birthday.
01:03So, actually, by creating a pub that can make sure it can accommodate all occasions,
01:12means it really becomes the heart of the community and people will use it quite a bit.
01:16Great. And what about numbers? What kind of money has been spent here at the Glassworks?
01:21Are we into figures? Are we saying?
01:23We can do. I think, you know, we've spent an awful £300,000 at the Glassworks to create the product you're seeing here.
01:29Got you. And where does this rank on, kind of, your listings? Is it up there with one of the best?
01:35It's a good size, isn't it, the Glassworks?
01:37This is a good pub. We love all our pubs dearly, of course.
01:41But, yeah, this will be in the top quarter of our pubs on take.
01:45And, you know, there's lots of people around this pub, and we really, really think we love our community.
01:50Right. So, thank you, Ed.
01:52So, Glassworks, how you doing, guys? We've got Landlord. What's your name, sir?
01:55John.
01:56And?
01:57Harold.
01:58Cool. So, are you new here, John?
01:59No, I've been here for about 14 months now.
02:00Have you?
02:01Just before last Christmas.
02:02So, we've got 14 months, and you've got 10 years under your belt, haven't you?
02:04Yeah.
02:05You were just chatting to one of the customers.
02:06Yeah, yeah.
02:07Exciting, really, to, you know, have a big makeover done on the pub, isn't it? Yeah?
02:11Yeah, it's beautiful in there.
02:12It looks beautiful.
02:13So, what's, kind of, any favourite spots, you know? You're too busy working to, you know, sit back and enjoy it.
02:19To be fair, all of it, it looks awesome in there. The difference from what it was before to what it is now, it's, kind of, taken all the best parts of the last pub and enhanced it.
02:28So, we've still got all of the family parts of it. We've got an absolutely excellent family lounge, and we've now got the addition of sports into our bar.
02:37So, we've got a proper bespoke bar with sports. We've got a giant screen TV, ultra-high definition, Sky Sports TNT, pool area, darts area.
02:46But it still maintains that split because we've got the two separate rooms between the bar and the lounge.
02:50Got it, yeah.
02:51And your regulars, what have they been saying? The chap I spoke to was loving it.
02:56Yeah, absolutely loving it. Absolutely. I've been in, had the meal, had the drinks, loved everything about it.
03:02Cool. Well, we wish you all the best, guys, and enjoy. Go and serve them customers.
03:08Cheers, guys.
03:09Thank you very much.
03:10Hello, sir. What's your name?
03:12Dave Baker.
03:13Hello, Dave. So, you were regular at the Glassworks?
03:16Oh, yes, every Friday we go.
03:18Yeah? Come for a drink and a bit of food?
03:20Oh, yes.
03:21Yeah, yeah.
03:22Lovely pub.
03:23So, what do you think of the makeover?
03:25Well, there's no children at the moment, but that's when they can come later.
03:34Oh, very nice now.
03:37You like it, yeah?
03:38Yeah, yeah.
03:39You approve of what they've done?
03:40Oh, of course.
03:42Very cosy looking, isn't it?
03:44Yeah, once I get you seated.
03:47Yeah, yeah.
03:48Yeah.
03:49Good stuff. Well, we'll see you next week.
03:51Cheers, mate.
