00:00Planning an unforgettable road trip probably doesn't have a large amount of breaks on your
00:05list, unless you have a small bladder or very hungry children in the back. However, according
00:10to HuffPost, the one very important task that can't be overlooked when road tripping is to
00:16take breaks. A lot of them. Sitting in the car for long periods of time can disrupt blood flow
00:22in the body, leading to dehydration and risk of blood clots. Dr. Vladimir Lakhta, an assistant
00:28professor of medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine says, riding in the car for a prolonged,
00:33uninterrupted period of time in a seated position increases the risk of developing deep vein
00:39thrombosis, DVT, a kind of blood clot that forms in the deep veins of the legs. You should plan to
00:46get out of the car and move around every one to two hours if your trip is set to last for at least
00:53four hours. A Yale Medicine vascular surgeon, Dr. Britt H. Tonneson says, a DVT can migrate
01:00and move to the main arteries in the lungs and be warned anyone can get a blood clot.
