00:00And we're back to ETV Sports. We're live with Team Falcons Philippines and Twisted Minds, Sir Ren and Ms. Lexie.
00:10Thank you so much for giving us your time this morning.
00:13Yes, you're here early in the morning, so let's start our story this morning.
00:19Can you tell us the reason to enter the Philippine Mobile Legends scene from all other regions in NPL?
00:26For Team Falcons, the important thing is performance metrics. We want to find the best place to compete.
00:33And for Mobile Legends, Philippines has been the world champion for the past five years.
00:39We're also the winners for the ML competition in the past three SEA Games.
00:43So if there's a region to compete for ML, it's going to be in the Philippines.
00:49For Twisted Minds, I think we all know PH is one of the strongest regions.
00:53So that's mainly the reason why PH invests in Twisted Minds.
01:00I have a follow-up question. Why do you think the Philippines is one of the best gamers in the world?
01:08I think the big part is obviously we're early adapters of the game.
01:12But at the same time, there has been a flourishing competition here.
01:17For example, NPL has been going on for 14-15 seasons.
01:22And I think it's a big part in developing our players in the Philippines.
01:32With that being said, can you tell us about your preparations and expectations for the first season of NPL?
01:41For us, to be honest right now, a lot is just getting ready.
01:45We're very new, so getting things set up and making sure the players are equipped and they can perform the best they can.
01:54For us, especially for me, the processes are important.
01:57Because I believe that once the processes are set up, then the results will follow.
02:01So once we smoothen out the operations here in the Philippines, then we're all good.
02:07But sir, you mentioned that you're just new and you're still looking at it.
02:15What do you think will be your advantage in joining this season?
02:37I can't really say about the processes, but I think the basic ones like starting training,
02:45or how do we actually connect with the people in MENA, for example.
02:51Or how do we maximize the resources that they have there and for us to use it entirely.
02:59Okay.
03:00But can you share with us what are the differences between Mobile Legends and other esports genres that you're a part of?
03:13For ML, obviously, I think the big part is it's very big in the Philippines.
03:17It's literally the biggest esports title in the Philippines.
03:21So there's a lot of attention, there's a lot of eyeballs.
03:25For Falcons, the org does a lot of games, but this is special because it's a way to attract not only the Filipino market,
03:34but also towards the Southeast Asian market.
03:38For Twisted Minds, they do have other titles as well, but seeing Mobile Legends and then opening in the PH market is really a huge thing.
03:48Have you tried playing Mobile Legends?
03:50Mobile Legends, yes.
03:51You know, I'm a top global player.
03:54I always use Layla.
03:56I play Layla.
03:57I'm a marksman.
03:59It's a good game.
04:01I also tried playing ML because I tried to be a caster initially.
04:07But I saw a lot of things on the screen.
04:09I don't think it's a game for me.
04:13Aside from those that you mentioned, let's talk about the fans are saying that esports now,
04:22the Esports World Cup is the primary reason why there are big organizations.
04:29But let me start with you, ladies first.
04:31What can you say about the fans commenting on that?
04:35I think it's true.
04:37But basically, again, PH is a competitive scene.
04:41That's where it really comes from.
04:43Okay.
04:44What do you think, aside from PH being competitive,
04:47who do you think will be our strong opponents in this?
04:53Do I stay in the region?
04:55Yeah, that's fine.
04:56I think Indonesia.
04:59Okay.
05:00Actually, everyone has their own strengths.
05:02But I just think PH is built different.
05:05Oh, I like that.
05:07How about you, sir?
05:08For PH, originally, the org has a team for ML in the MENA region.
05:15However, Esports World Cup did have them look at stronger setups.
05:22In this case, the stronger setup is the Philippines, which is why they're going here.
05:26So that's not totally out of the region.
05:28But the reality as well, aside from that is,
05:31PH had the privilege of having a partnership the past year with a local org.
05:36So we're able to explore what can be done here.
05:40And now we think it's best if we can grow our own community here by ourselves.
05:45But before I go to other questions,
05:49I would like to ask, sir Ren and Ms. Lexie,
05:53what does it mean, why Team Falcons and Twisted Minds?
06:02For both of us, I think it's the orgs.
06:04It's the orgs.
06:05It's the mother orgs from the investors.
06:08For me, the question is, how does the team practice to be this competitive
06:18and to be able to sustain that high level of intensity in playing?
06:24Because a lot of Filipinos, although we are all gamers as you've mentioned,
06:28they're wondering, why are the Filipinos so good at this?
06:35I think there's two sides.
06:37One is in-game and outside of the game.
06:39So in-game, of course, you have the training, the scrims, the practices.
06:42Then outside of the game, you also consider their health,
06:45their mental being and everything.
06:47Their emotional state, everything.
06:49Wow.
06:50Okay, so how do you try to maintain or allow the athletes to be in that kind of situation?
06:59We do have therapists, doctors, nutritionists to help everybody get in shape.
07:05So as a whole.
07:07So it's not like other sports, right?
07:11There's also PT.
07:16Not really heavy on the PT side, but yeah.
07:19Balancing the physical and mental aspect, right?
07:22Actually, it's good to know that.
07:24Because in esports, we know that when it comes to esports, it's just a game.
07:29Here, it's good for the public to know that there's this kind of thing being done.
07:37I think one of the biggest difference from pro to amateurs is how intentional the training is.
07:42As an amateur player, the training is playing a lot.
07:46I think with many other sports, your idea is you have to keep playing.
07:51As you go towards professional, it's less total hours in actual games,
07:57but also processing those training.
07:59So in terms of practice matches, not only do you play,
08:02but you also study what happened in those matches.
08:05You process the results.
08:07You discuss with your analysts and your coaches.
08:10So you have a feedback loop for the players to get better.
08:13It's not just sitting down and spending hours.
08:16It's processing this.
08:18It's also about technicalities and strategy.
08:21You mentioned training a lot of hours.
08:23How much time is a lot?
08:26Actually, for amateurs, it's just playing all day.
08:30All day?
08:31I think that's the idea of training for many amateurs in many categories.
08:39The idea was if you spend more hours, you get better.
08:42For pros, it's usually around 2-3 scrims per day.
08:47I think it's a good spot.
08:49But then it's put with other activities like analyzing,
08:52communications with teams, team building,
08:54talking with other people as well,
08:56and building other characteristics outside of gameplay.
09:01And speaking of getting better,
09:03how big is the pressure on us,
09:08especially since it's your first time here at MPL?
09:11How big is the pressure for our team to excel
09:15against mainstream teams like RSQ Philippines and others?
09:22Well, there's big shoes to fill
09:25because we are taking the spots of two well-loved teams.
09:30At the same time, we welcome the expectations.
09:37Between choosing a situation where the fans are expecting from us
09:42and they don't have any expectations,
09:43we'd rather welcome that they're expecting a lot of things from us.
09:48For us, I think pressure.
09:51What is pressure?
09:54In every field, there's pressure.
09:56Good pressure is okay,
09:58but too much pressure is not okay.
10:00But I think pressure to excel, it's normal.
10:05We accept that.
10:06And in terms of expectations,
10:08I think let's just walk the talk.
10:12Do you take it as a challenge for your team?
10:17Yes, for all teams.
10:21So we don't underestimate the other teams.
10:25Ms. Lexie, you mentioned too much pressure.
10:27When is too much pressure for a team like yours?
10:31I think too much pressure is when the players cannot fully function anymore
10:37and then they cannot cope up with the trainings and all.
10:43I have a follow-up question, Pao.
10:45Sometimes, athletes are told that some are good at waking up,
10:50some are not.
10:52But compared to the sport,
10:56some are more on physical.
10:58How about for esports?
10:59Is there such a thing?
11:03There can be.
11:04But for professional athletes,
11:06what we want to maintain is minimizing those variables
11:12because consistency is the most important part.
11:15If you want to be pro, you cannot be good on some days and bad on some days.
11:19You have to be excellent every time.
11:24Sometimes, superstitions are hard to get rid of.
11:27But those are the things we want to minimize.
11:29Okay.
11:30Interesting, Ms. Lexie.
11:32I think for us, it's just...
11:34There are players like that.
11:36What you can do is to train them how to adapt,
11:40how they can cope up with the bad waking up,
11:46or the loose tricks.
11:50First, Ren.
11:51I just want to ask you.
11:52We acquired the full roster of AP Bren.
11:56How did the process go?
11:58And how did the players react
12:00to know that they will be part of Team Falcon?
12:03I think I cannot speak to the acquisition as a whole.
12:06I think what's fair to say at this moment is
12:10we have released our roster for a competition next week,
12:13which is SPS.
12:15These players, we've worked before on our partnership.
12:18And we're happy to have them.
12:20I think we're confident with us being together for this event.
12:24And what do you feel,
12:25that we'll be able to face our former partners, AP Bren?
12:29For AP Bren on this coming MPL,
12:32between Falcons and them,
12:34there's just a lot of appreciation.
12:36It's a very fruitful partnership in the past 12 months.
12:40So I think we meet that with gratitude.
12:44We're not looking at it as a special match.
12:47It's a match that we do with everyone.
12:50But obviously, we're going to be happy to see them.
12:53We're happy to compete against them.
12:55Okay, Ms. Lexie.
12:56Ms. Lexie, you came from RSG.
12:58And there are a lot of notable players,
13:00and of course, coaches from Blacklist.
13:02But can you give us a hint?
13:05Who's on your roster?
13:06Are there any former MPL page teams?
13:10Actually, I cannot say.
13:11But watch out for Feb 12, guys.
13:14We will release our roster.
13:16But what can the gamers and your supporters expect
13:22from your team this coming season?
13:25This coming season, I think we'll do well.
13:30She's so excited.
13:31We'll do well.
13:33I don't want to talk to her.
13:36Yes, of course.
13:37Sir Ren, what can the people expect from Falcons?
13:41For this season,
13:43like how we approach every other game,
13:46we're going to be here to win.
13:47So we're going to be striving for that.
13:49And I think this is just the first step
13:51in the organization's plan to expand towards Southeast Asia.
13:54So we're happy to be in the Philippines,
13:56and we want to keep pushing forward.
13:58Any long-term goals for the organization?
14:02Well, our Global Esports Director was here a few weeks ago.
14:06So one of the things he said is
14:09there's a vision for Southeast Asian operations,
14:11and we want to focus on the Philippines for that.
14:14Wow, that's something that our Filipino gamers
14:17look forward to. Miss Lexi?
14:19Similar to that.
14:20They want to focus first on PH, expanding in PH,
14:23and then we will go from there.
14:24Right, okay.
14:25This is your time to invite or message your supporters.
14:29Ladies first.
14:31Hi, everyone.
14:33I would like you to support Twisted Minds PH.
14:36You may follow us on our socials, Twisted Minds,
