00:00We will give you an update on the declaration by the Department of Agriculture of the Food Security Emergency for rice.
00:07Details on this on the spot by Bernadette Reyes.
00:10Bernadette?
00:14Connie, in the next few days or weeks,
00:18the rice that will be released by the National Food Authority may already reach the families.
00:24This is the declaration by the Department of Agriculture of the Food Security Emergency for rice.
00:31Rice will be sold to LGUs, GOCC, and government agencies for P33 per kilo.
00:38It will be sold for P35 per kilo to consumers.
00:43This is from the initial target to be sold to consumers for P38.
00:48The NFA is still waiting for the answer of LGUs who want to buy rice.
00:53Based on the price, it will mean that the NFA has losses of P12 to P15 per kilo.
00:59But it will pave the way for the NFA to buy rice from farmers starting the harvest season.
01:07150,000 metric tons of rice were sold by the NFA within six months.
01:13But it may change depending on the duration of the implementation of the Food Security Emergency.
01:19According to the NFA, the price will be monitored,
01:22and if the price of rice will be lowered to the families,
01:25the NFA will study whether to lift or withdraw the declaration.
01:30But according to the Federation of Free Farmers Cooperative or FFF,
01:33to the farmers in the country,
01:35this has a negative effect on the farmers because they may lose money.
01:39If it is sold for P35 per kilo in the market,
01:43it is equivalent to P17 to P18 per kilo of rice.
01:47The loss of the NFA is also big because the rice was bought expensively but it will be sold cheaply.
01:53Connie, starting tomorrow, the maximum suggested legal price for 5% broken imported rice will be lowered to P55 per kilo.
02:03Meanwhile, by February 15, the implementation of the maximum suggested legal price will be done nationwide.
02:11Thank you very much, Bernadette Reyes.
