00:00Rory winning at Pebble Smiley doesn't get much better than that.
00:04It was a great week for the PGA Tour and have one of your stars and Rory McIlroy come out
00:09and just play as well as he did.
00:11It was just incredible what he was able to do.
00:14I think the stat that that really sticks out to me with Rory McIlroy like is that his driving
00:20distance was 17 yards further than the next guy, Gary Wood, when he averaged 336 yards
00:26and 17 longer, 17 yards longer than Gary.
00:29To me, that's just incredible what he's able to do off of the tee.
00:33And then when you get a week like Pebble Beach, when the weather is a little bit of everything,
00:38you had perfect days, you had windy, some rain.
00:40So you kind of have all the different climates that you can get at Pebble Beach.
00:44And then of course, just sitting on the couch watching Pebble, it's the best.
00:50It really is.
00:51And Rory made some comments this week about, you know, venues mattering, about how important
00:58it is to have these big events and the courses take over.
01:03And I know that you guys did something on your show, and we didn't really see this on
01:06the Smiley Show this week here on SportsGrid.
01:08And you made a very controversial list, top five of your, I guess, would you call it your
01:15favorite courses, Smiley's, where you were going with this, or the courses you thought
01:19mattered the most.
01:20How did you make that list that we'll see on the Smiley Show this week?
01:23Oh, yeah.
01:24It's the best what I would call venues on the PGA Tour.
01:28And this takes into account whether I liked playing the golf course, you know, did they
01:32get really good crowds and good support?
01:36Did it have a great finish?
01:37Was it fun to watch on TV?
01:39And this takes me back all the way back to where I was a kid.
01:42I think where there was controversy here is I left Riviera off of the list, which is,
01:47you know, by all accounts, one of the top courses they play year in and year out on
01:51the PGA Tour.
01:52I would say it's on everybody's top five list, probably everybody's top two list, Mike.
01:56But for whatever reason, I've never felt like Riviera, watching it on TV, had as much
02:01drama as any other golf courses.
02:03So when I think when I factor in that, I, for whatever reason, didn't have it in my
02:08top five.
02:09Now it's number six.
02:10And it's actually my favorite course to play on the PGA Tour.
02:13But when I sit at home and watch it, there's just not as much intrigue as maybe a PGA National,
02:18which has the bear trap and all the water.
02:20And then you have Harbortown, which I think is such a unique track that guys play year
02:25in, year out.
02:26Of course, Sawgrass and Pebble Beach, and then I rounded it out with Memorial, which
02:29I just grew up at Jack Nicklaus Golf Course here in Shoal Creek.
02:32And so I just was, I favored that over, I would say, Riviera, which maybe not the most
02:38popular opinion, but that was just my take.
