00:00There's not long left to submit your views on an active travel initiative for Burley
00:05Street, Park Lane and Westgate in Leeds City Centre, as a consultation is due to close
00:10on Monday 10th February.
00:12The scheme aims to tackle long-standing issues along the route, including congestion, limited
00:17pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and high collision rates.
00:21By introducing a new two-way segregated cycle lane, improving pedestrian crossings and implementing
00:26junction redesigns, the Council hope the route will become safer and reduce car dependency.
00:32Part of the plans for the project include fully signalised crossings on Park Lane, which
00:36has a high footfall from college students, and bus stop upgrades.
00:40The £1.8 million scheme would be delivered by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Active
00:45Travel England.
00:47Between 2017 and 2023 there were 63 reported casualties along the route, including 16 serious
00:53collisions.
00:54A consultation can be found by searching Westgate Connector Commonplace.
