emergency stairs

I can't speak English. I use the emergency stairs when I go out and when I come back. The reason is so that people can see me from outside. When I went downstairs, a young man was standing on the first floor with his elbow on the banister, holding something that looked like a large kitchen knife or a saw. I saw that and thought it was just a threat, so I wasn't scared at all.

I'm worried that someone might change this description while I'm sleeping and then change it back when I wake up.
