The federal opposition leader has set his sights on the Northern Territory as a potential pathway to victory at the upcoming federal election. Peter Dutton wrapped up a two-day visit to Alice Springs today by taking aim at the prime minister claiming he's "abandoned" the NT.

00:33The opposition leader also repeatedly criticised Anthony Albanese for failing to spend a night
00:38in Alice Springs before later backtracking.
00:42So I'm happy to be corrected but hopefully that's the case, hopefully he learnt something.
00:47Mr Dutton's comments came after he yesterday committed in principle to meeting all seven
00:52of the NT Chief Minister's key asks of the federal government to reduce crime in the
00:57Red Centre town.
00:59But in a statement the Prime Minister's office claimed the opposition leader had no plan
01:04and no detail on how he would implement the changes suggested by the NT government.
01:10With the Indigenous Australians Minister adding her government is already working with the
01:14Territory on constructive solutions, not playing politics.
01:18We've been working with the Chief Minister and continue to do so.
