00:00The Nighttime Industries Association has been aware that a number of areas from our industry
00:11are slowly eroding away as a result of lots of different forces and reasons and policies.
00:17And so it was important for us to undertake a big piece of research to get a full picture
00:22of what we're dealing with.
00:24What is the general sector's kind of outlook following the budget for the nighttime sector?
00:31The Chancellor's announcement that was hugely infuriating for not just the nighttime economy
00:36but also culture and hospitality.
00:39So I think we are going to see unfortunately more businesses go to the wall.
00:44We are likely to see people still being very careful with their money.
00:50There are still a lot of challenges on day-to-day costs and so for us we didn't take anything
00:59positive from the budget other than our workforce, our labour pool, may have a little bit more
01:05money in their pocket.
01:06In 2024 it was reported that a third of Brits are now visiting the pub just once a month
01:12as the cost of living crisis continues to hit the drinks industry.
01:16Figures found that 73% out of people go out less often than in 2022.
01:22According to a survey by the Financial Times, the desire for drinking in pubs and bars has
01:27declined by about 6%.
01:30It's all about also about community cohesion and that economic contribution to the UK's
01:35top level economy.
01:37So from our perspective there is a lot more here to lose than just venues like clubs and
01:42music venues.
01:44This really is about a significant slice of the UK's workforce, we're the fifth biggest
01:51industry in the UK.
01:52It isn't just about the spaces that we meet up and dance, but it's the industry that's
01:56at stake here.
