00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World and your Property Roundup for this week.
00:03Now we have a handful of fun stories but we're going to start with a planned expansion of the
00:07halls at Manchester Metropolitan University. Plans have been unveiled that would see the
00:11halls on Cambridge Street near the All Saints Park campus change dramatically,
00:16with two low-rise halls of residence soon to be demolished and replaced with towers and blocks,
00:21which would see the number of bedrooms in the area rise from 770 to 2330, a rise of over 1500.
00:28The plans are still in their infancy, with the first phase of the plan hoped to be completed
00:32by September 2029, with 1,126 bedrooms being built and a 24-storey tower, along with two
00:3811-storey buildings and an 8-storey block. The second phase will add a further 1,204 bedrooms
00:44the following year, spread across a 30-storey skyscraper, two 13-storey towers and an 8-storey
00:49block. Plans also include space for shops and a wellbeing space. With MMU also securing planning
00:55permission for a new library in the area, there looks to be exciting times ahead for the university.
01:00From real buildings to tiny ones, Manchester is also set to get an updated Monopoly board,
01:04which is very fun. In 1999, the city got its first personalised version of the board game,
01:08with Old Trafford, the Arndale Centre and Piccadilly Station being properties,
01:12and Eastgate being the most expensive on the board. For the new version, the public are being
01:16invited to send in suggestions for landmarks and organisations that would make it into the game.
01:21Old Trafford, the Etihad Midland Hotel, the AO Arena and Albert Square are all doing very well
01:26in the voting currently. On the community chess spaces, three local charities will be featured,
01:30while suggestions are being invited for the wording of the chants and community chess cards
01:34themselves. If you have any suggestions, email manchester at winningmoves.co.uk before 11.59pm
01:40on the 5th of February. Finally, a property listed on Purple Bricks has been featured on
01:43the website this week. It's a four-bed townhouse on Millbank Street, which has an on-site gym,
01:48swimming pool and games room. Encoats in the Northern Quarter are in close proximity,
01:52with the new Islington and Piccadilly Gardens tram stops being under half a mile away.
01:56Listed for just under £600,000, it's well worth a deep dive.
