00:00Well, Jo, as you can see, the rain is starting to pick up here in Cairns and with it, a renewed
00:08moderate and mild flood warning is issued for catchments from Cairns to Townsville.
00:14The heavy rain is due to a low that is developing off the coast of Cairns that's combined with
00:19the ridge and that is the one that is bringing the heavy rainfall to the area.
00:24The small town of Babinda received just 300 millimetres in 24 hours.
00:30The heavy rainfall is expected to continue into the weekend, but the BOM doesn't know
00:35where or when the heavy rainfall will fall.
00:38They just know that it will be on the coastal region.
00:42And is there a possibility of a cyclone?
00:45Yeah, as I said, Jo, there is that tropical low just hanging off the coast of Cairns at
00:50the moment.
00:51It is expected to stay off for the rest of today, but it will probably come back in tomorrow.
00:56At the moment, there's a very low chance of it developing into a tropical cyclone, sitting
01:01at just 5 per cent.
01:03But the Bureau is warning that that will bring gale force winds and more heavy localised
01:09flooding to the area.
01:11Now there has been flash flooding in the area and residents are getting prepared for the
01:17worst.
