00:00The recent arrests in Palawan and Makati of suspects engaged in eavesdropping and espionage
00:06activities are backed up by evidence and repeated stakeouts of their stealthy and sneaky actions
00:13and seizure of their data-gathering hardware.
00:16Hence, the NSC is advising the public to be on the lookout and to expect more arrests
00:23of these bad actors paid by foreign governments, as our Patrick de Souza reports.
00:32More arrests are expected for espionage following the apprehension of an alleged Chinese spy.
00:39According to the National Security Council, two more foreign nationals were arrested in
00:44Palawan after some residents reported their suspicious activities, which led to the discovery
00:50of evidence.
00:51We have seen the extensive operations that they have been doing in the Philippines and
01:20slowly we are able to disrupt and to stop all of these activities in our country.
01:27The NSC and AFP reiterated that the arrests of the alleged spies are not fabricated, but
01:34are the results of surveillance operations.
01:37Don't downplay this, because some are saying that this equipment is not high-tech, but
01:42what matters is the data that is being taken and how it's going to be used.
01:49We are saddened by what the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, that
01:54all of these are baseless accusations, all of this is not true and is just a lie.
02:00This was a case build-up, our government is not stupid.
02:04Retired Associate Justice Antonio Capio supports the move to amend the country's espionage
02:09law as pushed by the NSC and the passage of a law against foreign interference and malign
02:15influence.
02:17We are now in the cyber age.
02:19We have to update really a lot of our criminal laws, especially on national security.
02:25From the People's Television Network, Patrick De Azuz, Balitan Pambansa.
