00:00No amount of weeping or even a presser with a high-profile attorney helping out
00:04could offset or surmount solid evidence gathered on an alleged Chinese spy recently
00:09caught in Makati City along with two accomplices and an array of information-gathering
00:14instrumentation and mapping devices. Our Patrick De Jesus has more on desperate moves by an either
00:21unknowing wife with no clue at all or a silent partner to her husband's nefarious espionage
00:26activities in this report. The Armed Forces of the Philippines emphasized that the arrest
00:34of a Chinese national accused of espionage is backed up by evidence. This was the AFP's response
00:41to the statement of the suspect's Filipino wife who denied her arrested husband is a spy. In terms
00:48of the interview that was conducted with the wife, the Armed Forces of the Philippines understands
00:53her concern being of course emotionally involved being a wife, a mother. But for the Armed Forces
01:01of the Philippines, we look into the evidence-based results of this investigation. Last week the
01:10Chinese national was arrested in Makati City where various instrumentation and devices allegedly used
01:16for espionage were confiscated. However, his wife defended him claiming his work is related
01:23to a self-driving car company.
01:25He's not a spy. He's been living here in the Philippines for a long time.
01:36He's been here for more than 10 years. We have a son. He's 8 years old. I'm scared
01:43because my son is poor in school. Because of the media that his father is a spy, I don't want
01:50to think about him. The AFP along with other government agencies continues its investigation.
01:58What we can point out is that these are crucial features that has been found in the data.
02:06So these are military camps, PNP camps, places that are frequently visited especially by a lot
02:13of Filipinos such as malls, airports, ports, and a lot of critical infrastructures as well.
02:21And they number to hundreds. These are all a matter of sincere and serious concern in our part
02:33as the AFP is the one safeguarding our national security. The Chinese national and two Filipinos
02:40involved have already been charged with espionage and violation of the anti-cybercrime law.
