00:00The first nationals deported under the Donald Trump administration arrived in Colombia on
00:04two flights of the Colombian airspace force. Upon their arrival in the country, they reported
00:08the mistreatment they were subjected to by the United States immigration authorities.
00:13Ednán Tobar with the details.
00:18Luis and his family are part of the 201 Colombians deported by the United States
00:22government who arrived in the country from El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California,
00:29in the United States. He tells how after his detention,
00:32he was mistreated by the authorities of that country in his deportation process.
00:40When I arrived in San Diego, they handcuffed my hands and feet.
00:43Even the women who were alone, they handcuffed their hands and feet.
00:46The only ones they didn't handcuff were the ones with their children.
00:50In front of our children, they handcuffed us, and the children were obviously watching.
00:54My daughter asked me, Daddy, why are they handcuffing you? Are you going to jail?
00:59Obviously confused. What was I supposed to tell her?
01:06So she was slowly understanding the process, but she couldn't say anything.
01:11In San Diego, they mistreated us a lot. They treated us practically like animals.
01:16They threw food at us, and we had no access to anything. They separated us.
01:20They separated my wife and my daughter, and I lasted two days without hearing from them.
01:24Until today, when we had the meeting to leave here in the early morning.
01:34Colombian immigration authorities reviewed the disciplinary records of each of the deportees,
01:39and it was found that none of them is associated with or has any pending judicial investigation
01:43in Colombia or the United States, as stated by U.S. President Donald Trump,
01:48who claimed that criminals were being deported.
01:54None of them has a pending record with the justice system, none of them arrived handcuffed,
01:58which is important to point out to the country.
02:10We are very happy that they have arrived in our country and,
02:13obviously, the president is giving instructions for
02:16the comprehensive care of deportees from all countries.
02:24The Colombian government ratified that deportees must be treated with dignity
02:29and that they are not criminals. The minister of foreign affairs made an assessment of the
02:33deported persons and assured that the protocols for deportation flights will continue to be enforced,
02:38guaranteeing their rights and respect for their dignity.
02:44The first flight from San Diego, California, brought 62 men, 32 women and 16 children.
02:51This group were two pregnant women who, according to medical reports, are in good health.
02:56The second flight from El Paso, Texas, brought 46 men, 45 women and five minors.
03:04Consulate officials were attentive to ensure that the situation of our nationals on both
03:08flights was satisfactory, providing them with technical, medical and food assistance.
03:13For these Colombian migrants deported from the U.S., the American dream has come to an end,
03:24and they maintain that nothing in life justifies the treatment they were subjected to.
