00:00It is expected that the country's energy supply will be more stable after investing in the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and Maharlika Investment Corporation.
00:12Will this help lower the price of electricity?
00:16Let's find out in the center of the news of Gleisel Pardilla, live.
00:22Yes, Aljo, more stable supply and cheaper electricity.
00:27That is the result expected by the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:32from the flagship investment of the Maharlika Investment Fund in the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
00:41The Maharlika Investment Corporation started using the Maharlika Investment Fund for investment.
00:51This is followed by the purchase of 20%, or equivalent to more than P19 billion, of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines or NGCP.
01:02The NGCP is a private corporation that runs the power grid of the country
01:07and distributes electricity to plants aimed at power distributors such as Meralco.
01:13The Maharlika Investment Corporation will be given two seats on the board of the NGCP.
01:18This means, said President Marcos, that the people will have a voice
01:24and the government will be able to influence the decisions of the NGCP
01:28to ensure a stable supply and reduce the shortage of electricity.
01:33Explained by the Energy Department and MIC,
01:36the government will be able to ensure that the implementation of the NGCP project is correct and timely.
01:43For example, when the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project of 2024 was completed,
01:48the price of electricity in Luzon dropped by P1 to P2.
01:54The electricity price in the spot market benefited not only Luzon-Visayas but also Mindanao.
02:04It can actually contribute to lowering prices because it addresses the constraints,
02:11the transmission constraints that drive prices up.
02:16So, as we roll out more of these projects,
02:20then there will be no obstacles in the supply of electricity.
02:32Because the NGCP is already a part of the government, there will be transparency.
02:37It will be seen if there are or if there are gaps that could cause a shortage of electricity.
02:43Aside from ensuring a stable supply and helping to reach the price of electricity,
02:47the government also expects to earn P1.24 billion in the first three years of its administration.
02:54The Maharlika Investment Fund will be the one to invest in the electricity
02:59and the government will benefit from it
03:02because it can see that there is a high need to provide a supply and a decent price of electricity.
03:09That is the latest news. Back to you, Aljo.
03:13Thank you very much, Claizel Pardilla.
