We noticed that our star WR Terry McLaurin wasn't as involved as we wanted him to be, what went wrong?

00:00Yeah, I know for a fact that they will never have a team around Jaden Daniels with as little
00:06talent as this one, in this iteration, because of the money they have and the picks that
00:10they have and the front office acumen that Adam Peters and Lance Newmark have.
00:15I know that.
00:16What I don't know is, will they be able to recreate the brotherhood, the chemistry, the
00:23uniqueness of the locker room, which is arguably as, or maybe just a little less significant
00:28and important than the talent.
00:31That's going to be the challenge, clearly, this offseason.

00:55What did you think of Daniels in his first championship game action?
01:00Solid.
01:01If unspectacular, the, the, the bar that he set was frankly outrageous.
01:07And not just for a rookie for anybody, like basically, Hey, there's not that much going
01:11on here.
01:12Could you just be a superhero?
01:13He came in the best player in the playoffs hockey has an award called the con Smythe.
01:17It goes to the guy that was the most dominant player in a postseason run.
01:21And Jaden Daniels was in the driver's seat for the con Smythe in the NFL.
01:25And he was not head and shoulders, the best player on the field, but he was in Detroit.
01:29I thought, and you could probably make that case for Tampa, although I'm sure I'm forgetting
01:34something along the way for 10, you know, from the bucks, but like he was the best player
01:38on the field, probably in both games.
01:40I didn't think that was the case yesterday.
01:41No.
01:42And you know, you always wonder, right.
01:46You need someone that really, really knows what the play call was, what the assignment
01:49was or whatever.
01:50Was it some of the sacks or some of the pressures that he faced?
01:53Was there somebody there?
01:54If he was totally on time, was it that he saw instantly that Allegretti got beat or
01:58was it, you know, some, some, you know, some truth somewhere in between, it was the drop
02:01supposed to be five.
02:02And then he ended up going seven and then he escaped or, or whatever.
02:05I get the sense though, in general, I sort of default to him being right.
02:10More often than not based on the deposits he's put in the bank, I don't know, for 90
02:13some percent of this year, I get the sense when he was scrambling, looking downfield,
02:18you know, running to his right, hoping and praying that somebody would come open that
02:21nobody was.
02:22I just, I just think Philadelphia is really good, especially at that, at plastering the
02:25guys cover one-on-one limiting things.
02:28I think they guess, right.
02:29An awful lot of some of the past concepts and different stuff.
02:32Cause I think Vic Fangio was great at this, quite frankly.
02:35And you don't have a guy like AJ Brown that can just go, even if I'm covered, I'm going
02:40to uncover in a matter of seconds, it's not really who they are.
02:43So, you know, to me, I thought he was good.
02:45I don't think it was that they lost cause Jaden Daniels wasn't good.
02:48I don't think that's the case at all.
02:49No, definitely not.
02:50He gave them a chance in the game.
02:52I think, I thought he was terrific on the first drive, mostly, you know, they went on
02:58that 17 play drive.
02:59They picked up some third and fourth downs, you know, the little out routes and things
03:02to the sideline to get to the sticks.
03:05I thought for the most part ball placement on that drive was really sharp.
03:09And he scrambled a couple of times, a touchdown run was filth.
03:12Well, that was much later.
03:13I'm just talking about the, but I thought it was really good.
03:16I hated that they kicked the field goal when they did hate it as strong, but they'd gone
03:19for two fourth downs at a fourth and three and chip shot field goal range.
03:23I would have gone one more time.
03:24They kicked, that's fine.
03:25Whatever kind of went against what they'd done, not only on that drive, but all postseason
03:29long.
03:30But I thought he was really good to start.
03:31And then I thought the rest of the first half down the field, he got a little bit lucky.
03:38Like he overshot Terry McLaurin at one point, him and McLaurin weren't on the same page
03:42a couple of times.
03:43But overall, I would just say he was solid.
03:46If you wanted to say he was good, no problem with that.
03:49As you said, the touchdown run was sexy.
03:51Like that was awesome.
03:52Play was just nasty.
03:53I kind of could see around me in the crowd.
03:56I was in the press box, but like there was, it was kind of one of those like high pitched
04:00Chris Berman, like whoop plays.
04:02But the reaction of the Eagles fans was like shaking their head and laughing and looking
04:05at each other.
04:06Like, Oh, that's what we've been hearing about all week.
04:08Oh, I see.
04:09That's why he's uncheckable.
04:10Yeah.
04:11And then it all went, you know, like, like the world's greatest Allen Iverson crossover.
04:15It's it's had three defenders reeling and flying away, cuts back two different times,
04:19sort of like, you know, jukes inside the kind of goes back towards the, you just go, okay,
04:23that guy's more talented than everybody.
04:24Daniels is only touchdown pass was the 36 yard in a McLaurin, which was a perfectly
04:28thrown slant, but it was a, you know, four or five yard slant or whatever that McLaurin
04:33ran through a tackle of an all pro linebacker, then beat a guy with speed on an angle to
04:38the end zone and ran away from slay inside the five.
04:40As he was trying to make a tackle, that was a tremendous effort.
04:43This was Terry McLaurin, but he was not involved enough that he ended up being targeted seven
04:49times.
04:50It was one of those where like a few of those targets or what I'm talking about, where you
04:52throw the ball 20 yards too far, you know, and he had a reception.
04:55Was it just to go try to make a play?
04:57Exactly.
04:58There's a couple of balls out of bounds that goes targets in terms of like actual throws
05:01to him in the confines of the offense, in the middle of the field or whatever, or on
05:04slants or stuff where he could actually catch it.
05:06There might've been four, five tops.
05:09And after the touchdown, it was forever until he was back involved.
05:12I did not understand that.
05:14And I know we're broken records on this, on this show, but forgive us for being correct.
05:18Like there should just never be more than a couple of drives, Danny, because it's not
05:22like they were going three and out.
05:23It's not like they were punting a whole bunch.
05:25There should just never be 15, 18, 20 snaps, you know, six, seven, eight, 10 throws where
05:30you're not in some way looking his way.
05:33And he was just kind of a non-factor for a couple of quarters.
05:37So three of his four lowest productive games of the season, outside of like kind of the
05:42early season.
05:43So over the last like three, four months, all against Philadelphia, the Atlanta game
05:46where he went one for seven, uh, one, one target, excuse me, seven targets, one reception
05:51for five yards.
05:52You don't care about that.
05:53Cause they scored 30 points.
05:54That's never my issue.
05:55You score points.
05:56You move the football.
05:57I don't give a damn who's got it.
05:58But when you're struggling on offense, you know, it's something I couldn't stand.
06:03I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't get McCorn going or try to desperately
06:07above all anything else as your offense, isn't moving the football.
06:10The other game in Philly in the middle of November one for 10, uh, and they only threw
06:14it to him twice.
06:15If you remember, they didn't even try to throw it to him.
06:17Now that game was a bad enough offensive game that they were at a rhythm.
06:20They didn't run a lot of plays.
06:21If I remember there were some three and outs, they weren't really in sync.
06:24So some of that is a factor, but every single game, when I got back to my desk at two in
06:29the morning and flipped on the film for the first time up, I'm Kingsbury.
06:32One of my first questions is, did I try my best to involve Terry McLaurin?
06:36And you can't say yes after that game.
06:37No.
06:38And I think after this game, you can't say yes.
06:40Now he might say to your point, well, the Eagles do this thing where they bracket the
06:43coverage his way and they dare us to throw it to other people.
06:46So where it's goes 11 for a hundred or so, Deami gets looks or, and if that's the case,
06:50that's fine.
06:51But someone else then has to eat.
06:52Hertz did.
06:54Nobody else did.
06:55Yeah.
06:56And if I'm Philadelphia, I'll go, yep.
06:57Let me sign up for that every time.
06:58Exactly.
06:59There's nothing dynamic.
07:00It's easy to take him out of the game.
07:01If I'm lining him up in the same spot and not putting him in motion and not getting
07:04him in stacks, which has kind of always been one of the knocks with this offense anyway,
07:09but no Deami Brown three for 42, um, had a 24 yard catch, but of course did fumble in
07:14the game.
07:15The key is everything he caught was early and around the line of scrimmage.
07:18Like someone else then has to be open.
07:21If you're telling me they're making such a concerted effort against McLaurin fine, but
07:24then you've got to feed the ball elsewhere.
07:26Yeah.
07:27There's, you know, and, and I think Mitchell's outstanding for them.
07:30I think he, he, he's a great matchup for Terry McCormick for whatever reason.
07:32I don't know what physical attributes or mental capacity he has, but he's, he does a really
07:37good job when he covers McCormick one-on-one in, in the Landover, Terry beat him a bunch.
07:42I want to say it was only like a five or six catch game for 70 yards and a touchdown.
07:45The one long touchdown.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Five for six in the tiny.
07:48Yeah.
07:49But he had, I mean, that was the only time they've really thrown to him against the Eagles
07:52and he kind of gave Mitchell all he can handle.
07:54I almost think that it's operator error a little bit, but I guess we'll never know to
07:58quote ancient philosopher Kanye West.
08:01Indeed.
08:02Yeah.
08:03I mean, to me, I think it's a combination of a lot of things.
08:04I think, again, I, I give a lot of credit to Vic Fangio, Philly's defense.
08:08It's really good.
08:09They've turned into good work all year.
08:10It's not just the only play well against Washington.
08:12They played well against damn near everybody ranked number one over the course of the year.
08:16I also do think there is something to the idea though, that it's where there's not enough
08:22of the humility is not the right word because it sounds like I'm being very critical of
08:26Kingsbury, but the, okay.
08:28We can't just do what we do because that's been good enough to get us the NFC title game.
08:32We're dancing with the one that brought us, we're playing our way.
08:34There's gotta be some acknowledgement here, some deference to the opponent where I go,
08:38you know what?
08:39The normal way isn't getting McCorn going enough.
08:41His touchdown catch, by the way, a slant when he was on the right side, going up against
08:45Darius slay, not the left side.
08:47So if I need him to be on the right side, let's just flip every formation, every alignment
08:52or whatever until they do something about it.
08:55Or as you said, stack motion, where's my pop past McCord?
08:58Why is it only reserved for, you know, down me Brown once a game or allow me to Zacchaeus
09:01once a game or Crowder.
09:02Let's do that.
09:03It's something else to get him more involved.
