00:00And obviously, as we get deeper into this week and next week, we'll start talking more and more about the Eagles and the Chiefs.
00:05Eagles open up as a point-and-a-half underdog to KC, but today largely about yesterday, the season that has been so far.
00:11We welcome an Eagles legend, big old smile on his face, obviously, with the Byrd success.
00:15Seth is one of the most proud Eagles alums I know, really proud to wear that big Eagles E on his chest.
00:22And Seth, what a great day for you and the alums, and congrats to you as a great Byrd man, and I know it's a big-time day.
00:29Thanks, man. It's incredible. But I can't say I didn't expect for it.
00:37Yeah, you called it. You called it right away. Snowball's chance in hell.
00:41And you just said, hey, you know, it hung in the balance. That game was never hanging in the balance.
00:48Never. It just never was. Between losing Jalen in Week 16 and losing CJ Gardner-Johnson,
00:56that's where that game was headed in Week 16 before we lost those two players.
01:00So to be able to get them back with the extra motivation about what was going on down in Washington,
01:07and Jalen said some things yesterday, man, that really made me think about how he's been used all season long.
01:19What struck you?
01:21He said, I think, what did he say?
01:22Straight jacket?
01:23Yeah.
01:24Let me get my straight jacket off?
01:25Let me out of the straight jacket.
01:26That's pretty darn telling, man.
01:27You think he was frustrated?
01:28Man, he took a lot of crap all year long.
01:30Yeah.
01:31And if they made the decision after the bye to put him in a straight jacket and run the football,
01:35you know, he took a lot of undue criticism all season long that he didn't necessarily,
01:41because what he did yesterday, he stepped up and showed that he could get the job done throwing the ball
01:46when he needed to get it done, when everybody else didn't believe he can do it.
01:5020 or 28 for 248 yards, a touchdown and three Russian touchdowns?
01:57Come on.
01:58What other quarterback in the National Football League outperformed him yesterday?
02:03When are we going to start talking about Josh Allen not being able to close the deal against Mahomes?
02:08How many is that?
02:09Five in a row in the playoffs that he's lost to him?
02:13So, I mean, I was watching ESPN last week and it really pissed me off because they were like,
02:17oh, which quarterback has the most to lose over championship weekend?
02:22Oh, Jalen Hurts.
02:23You know, he may lose the locker, Mr. Cam Newton.
02:28You know, the whole thing with Joe Witt and Stephen A being okay with that.
02:33Oh, you know, I admire that.
02:36I'm like, dude, really?
02:38Really?
02:39I smell fear, Joe Witt Jr.
02:41That's what I smell.
02:42When a coach comes out and says something like that, John, midweek, I smell fear.
02:47Because what you didn't want Jalen to do is run the football that helps open up the Saquon.
02:52It sure did.
02:53And opens up everything else.
02:54So if he just sits there in that pocket like a scared little duck, it makes your job easier.
03:00Take your ass back to D.C.
03:02Love it.
03:04Love it.
03:05That was good, man.
03:07Seth, what about the linebacker?
03:10What about the linebacker playing this one?
03:13I mean, Oren Burks has – and, John, I've been saying, you know, he needs time.
03:19Because when I saw him play – I don't know what's going on with my voice this morning.
03:24Too much celebration last night.
03:26You're getting emotional.
03:28No, it ain't that.
03:29No, it's not that.
03:30He was partying.
03:31Just a late night.
03:33I was.
03:34I did have a few last night.
03:36That's good.
03:39When he was with San Francisco, he stepped in and he played really, really well for them.
03:44And when I heard that they signed him, I was really excited.
03:49Because, you know, I felt like we've got so much talent at linebacker now,
03:53now the competition could be off the charts.
03:57You know?
03:58And to just see him fade and not even ever really be in the mix.
04:02But now that he's been forced into playing like he was in San Francisco,
04:07you know, two weeks of practice, two weeks of playing time, he's coming around.
04:12Really coming.
04:13And Zach Bond is just – I love the – you know, I love the recognition he's getting.
04:21Me too.
04:22And off the ball linebacker in the conversation for defensive player of the year.
04:27Like, I never realized I got one vote in 91.
04:31And I came in fifth.
04:33That's ridiculous.
04:35For this kid to be doing what he's doing, you know, I mean,
04:40we haven't had a linebacker with these kind of credentials in so long.
04:45It's so strange to be a linebacker and be able to run a 4-3 also, though.
04:50I mean, that really is – I guess that's where the game is going now?
04:54Well, it's really a 4-2.
04:56No, I mean a 4-3 in the 40.
04:59Oh, yes.
05:00Yeah, it is a nickel 42.
05:01Yes.
05:02With Dejean as our additional linebacker.
05:05You want to know the crazy thing about it, John?
05:07I kind of get the sense that we're seeing a shift as far as the run game is concerned,
05:12which is going to require –
05:13Heavier linebackers.
05:15No question.
05:16To get bigger linebackers.
05:17And then the chess match and the strategy ratchets up another level.
05:22You're going to see it with the draft this year.
05:23You're going to see bigger guys drafted earlier than they would have been, I think.
05:27And you're going to see running backs getting paid.
05:31You're going to see running backs getting drafted.
05:33It may take another year, one more year, in order to get fully there.
05:39But then the chess match ramps up.
05:42It's good for football.
05:43It got out of whack.
05:44It's just good.
05:45No doubt about it.
05:46But the chess match ramps up because now when you go to these bigger linebackers,
05:52the reason they went smaller is because these guys need to be faster and be able to operate in space.
05:58You go bigger, now you've got slower linebackers that's not so nimble in space,
06:03and the chess match that goes on between the OC and the DC.
06:06Yeah.
06:07Yeah, it's great stuff.
06:08All right, Seth with us in studio.
06:09A reminder, the app, the Odyssey app, where you can hear all of our content,
06:12not only live but also back.
06:14So if you're about to go into work or maybe you're –
06:17someone right now might be 12 minutes late to work.
06:19Right?
06:20But they're about to go inside.
06:21My point is –
06:22It's an okay day to be late to work.
06:23If you're about to have to turn us off, hey, listen.
06:26Odyssey app.
06:27Listen to us later.
06:28It's all there.
06:29This hour with Seth, all the guests we have all week.
06:31It should be something, which will include Jaws tomorrow and Brandon Graham tomorrow
06:35and probably Nick Sirianni tomorrow amongst others.
06:37All right.
06:38To the phones, 215-592-9494.
06:41On a great day, let's talk to Violet.
06:43Good morning, Violet.
06:44Hi, guys.
06:45Oh, my God, I'm so excited I got through.
06:48Good for you, Violet.
06:49What's up, Violet?
06:50Oh, my God, you guys.
06:52I am so – I can't even – oh, my God.
06:57I'm like almost in tears.
06:59I'm so happy.
07:00Not for me as a fan.
07:02I am so happy for this team because I cannot imagine the work, the dedication,
07:11what it takes to get to this point.
07:15And Jalen, oh, my God.
07:17I know I was one that was saying through the weeks, don't hold the ball,
07:21don't take a safety.
07:22My God, he had the most incredible freaking game of his life.
07:29I knew it was in there.
07:31I knew it was there.
07:32That freaking Super Bowl appearance that he made was not a fluke, baby.
07:37He is – oh, my God.
07:39Go, Eagles.
07:41I did the freaking Eagles chant this morning.
07:44All right, Violet, get on.
07:45Give me an Eagles chant.
07:47Let's go, Violet.
07:48Give me your best Eagles chant.
07:49Woo.
07:50Give me one.
07:51E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles.
07:55Good call, Violet.
07:56Good stuff.
07:57Thank you for the phone call.
07:58We appreciate that.
07:59Let's get to Geno in Northeast Philly.
08:00Northeast Philly was rocking last night.
08:02What's going on, Geno?
08:05Good morning, guys.
08:06How are you doing?
08:07Great, Geno.
08:08It's pretty cool to have Seth on the phone because, you know,
08:13I'm a 27-year season ticket holder.
08:14I was at the game last night.
08:16And, you know, whenever they win these big games lately, you know,
08:20the first thing I think about is my dad.
08:21My dad passed away in 2016.
08:23You know, he was a fireman, Vietnam veteran, you know,
08:26just a great all-around dude.
08:27And he made me an Eagles fan.
08:29And, you know, he didn't get to see us go to these three, you know,
08:33since the success we've had since 2017, you know.
08:37Geno, this stuff is – these moments are always very special for that reason.
08:41It's a very common theme every time one of our teams gets this far,
08:46and it doesn't happen that often.
08:48But it's a big theme.
08:49It resonates with me.
08:50My father died when I was young.
08:52My brother died five years ago.
08:53You know, I got to watch that Super Bowl seven years ago with my mom,
08:56who was in her mid-70s at the time, still alive.
08:59Like, it's very meaningful, very meaningful.
09:04Well, the first game he ever took me to, Seth scored a touchdown
09:08and saluted a Jerome Brown sign in the end zone.
09:11Was it the – let me take a guess.
09:13Was it when he picked off Salisbury with one – the one-hand catch?
09:18Yes.
09:19Good man.
09:20Nice job, Seth.
09:22You got good hands.
09:23It was the left-hand, one-hand interception.
09:26It was a lefty one-hand?
09:27It was badass.
09:29Take that, Sean Salisbury.
09:32Every time I see him, he moans a little.
09:35That's awesome.
09:36Please do.
09:37Please do.
09:40Go ahead, Gene.
09:41I was so happy for Jalen because, you know, I was so happy for Jalen.
09:45This guy takes so much criticism and, you know, listen, I get it.
09:49The numbers aren't always great, blah, blah, blah, but the guy just wins.
09:53And you know what?
09:54The guy doesn't care about his stats.
09:56He just will do whatever it takes for the team to win.
09:59And I was so happy for him.
10:00I was so happy that Sirianni and him had that moment on the thing together
10:04because, you know, they had their little problems and whatever it is,
10:07but it was just great, guys.
10:09It was great.
10:10It was phenomenal.
10:11Listen, like you guys said, I want the Chiefs.
10:13I want the Chiefs.
10:14I want to be the team that beat Brady and beat Mahomes.
10:18Listen, it would be an incredible achievement.
10:21I mean, Eli Manning only beat Brady.
10:23Brady's the only one to beat Mahomes in a Super Bowl.
10:26Brady is the only one to beat Mahomes.
10:28That's right.
10:29It's our time, guys.
10:30It really feels like there's a changing of the guard going on.
10:34I'll just say this.
10:35I don't want to get ahead of myself.
10:36I'm picking the Eagles, okay?
10:38But I beg people, I beg you to not just assume the Eagles are going to win.
10:43Yeah, we did that in 2022 and it didn't go great.
10:45I mean, the Chiefs are very legit.
10:47And Mahomes is extraordinarily legit.
10:49So, Seth, you're shaking your head.
10:51Go ahead.
10:52Here you guys go with the negativity again.
10:54It's not negativity.
10:55I think they're going to win.
10:56They're going to win.
10:57What is Kansas City?
10:5818-1 when they try this year?
11:00You would think all that we've been through this year, James, Joe,
11:06you'd think that everything that we've been through.
11:08I'm picking them to win.
11:09Seth, what are you talking about, man?
11:11I just said the Chiefs are good.
11:12I don't assume.
11:13Because I assumed two years ago the Eagles were going to win.
11:15I made a mistake two years ago.
11:17I think they're going to win.
11:19I do not give a rat's ass about Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
11:23Amen.
11:24I really don't.
11:25You shouldn't, though.
11:26No, I don't.
11:27I don't.
11:28I'm not saying that I'm taking them lightly,
11:30or I'm not saying that I disrespect them.
11:32I do not care about them.
11:34You understand what I'm saying?
11:36And when you play football, that has to be your mentality.
11:39If you go out there with any kind of apprehension about how great that guy is,
11:43I don't care how great Patrick Mahomes is.
11:46I'm trying to hurt him today because he's in the way of something that I desire.
11:54But we're viewing it as a fan.
11:56I like the way you put that.
11:57I'm not playing the game.
11:58I'm not playing the game.
11:59We are trying to hurt him today.
12:00That's a great way to put it.
12:01I view it like the Eagles are going up against Michael Jordan.
12:03That's how I view it.
12:04And so, yeah, you can lose to Michael Jordan.
12:06That's all I'm saying.
12:07Yeah, but you know what?
12:09I kind of feel the same way I felt last week when I said I'm not going to go that far
12:15because it caused the you-know-what's-going-on week.
12:19Yeah.
12:20No, not really.
12:22Not really because, Rhea, I was a little apprehensive as the week began to go on
12:28because I got into Twitter wars with CommandersFan, the guy from the CommandersSI.com,
12:35wrote a story last week.
12:37So I'm like, man, if these guys don't go out here and win this game, I can't hide.
12:42I'm going to have to step up and hear this.
12:45But now all those people, they got a mouthful of cornbread.
12:50They ain't saying nothing right now.
12:52They've turned into Casper the Ghost and disappeared.
12:56So I'm not going to go that far, but I'm going to say I expect for the Eagles to win this football game.
13:02I do too.
13:03I really do.
13:04And we're hot.
13:05We are the hot team.
13:06And we're better.
13:07We scored 55 points.
13:09We've got a better roster.
13:10Yeah, I know Andy Reid is incredible and Spags is going to zero blitz us when it's timely.
13:16So send them the good, positive vibes.
13:20Let's not sit here and talk about if or what may happen or none of that stuff.
13:25Let's just be confident about it because that kind of energy coming from the city
13:29only bodes well for the players, in my opinion.
13:32And in a lot of ways, this is what I'm talking about,
13:35what I was saying a couple of weeks ago about being grateful for the moment
13:39and also enjoying the moment.
13:41Sure.
13:42We've got to enjoy this moment.
13:44I agree.
13:46Because we were here two years ago and it didn't go that well.
13:53Previous to that, we were there five years.
13:57So this isn't something that happens every single year.
14:01So when a team is on a run like this team, 17-3, you have to enjoy the moment.
14:08You have to be grateful for the moment because it doesn't happen that often.
14:12Well said.
14:13All right, let's listen to how it went down on the stage last night
14:17when the Eagles won the game and then Terry Bradshaw with Nick Foles,
14:20with Jeffrey Lurie, with Nick Sirianni, and with Jalen Hurts.
14:24Here's the trophy presentation once again.
14:26Congratulations.
14:29Now to present the George S. Hallis Award Emblematic of the NFC Champions,
14:35a great eagle, Nick Foles,
14:37we're giving it to Jeffrey Lurie, the owner.
14:43We have the best owner in sports right here, Mr. Lurie.
14:47On behalf of the National Football League,
14:50it is my honor to present the George Hallis Trophy
14:53to the National Football Conference Champions, our Philadelphia Eagles.
14:59All right.
15:08Owner Lurie, you've owned this team for 30 years ever since 1994, I believe it was.
15:13Yeah.
15:14How unexpected is this for this team that you own to go to the Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans?
15:19Well, it's kind of expected, I think.
15:21Oh, okay, good, expected.
15:23Yeah.
15:24I mean, the most unselfish, humble group of players,
15:28coaches led by Nick, Howie and his staff,
15:32I mean, the best fans in the world.
15:34It's a pretty strong cocktail.
15:37I like that cocktail.
15:39Congratulations.
15:40See you in New Orleans.
15:41Great to be back, and we're there to win it.
15:43Nick Sirianni, head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
15:46Come here.
15:51You know, we talked about this game coming in.
15:53Neither one of your teams, this team, your team, or Washington,
15:56they did not turn the ball over today.
15:58You created all four turnovers and also scored touchdowns after every one of them.
16:03What does that say about your football team?
16:05Yeah, first and foremost, everything good in our life comes from God, so thank God for that.
16:10How about our quarterback?
16:12How about your quarterback?
16:13How about our quarterback?
16:14How about your quarterback?
16:15He's a stud.
16:16The eldest.
16:17I knew he was going to play that way.
16:18I knew it.
16:19Don't doubt him.
16:20All he does is win.
16:23Fabulous, Nick Sirianni.
16:25And then, of course, Jalen, take that trophy.
16:28Come over here.
16:29Golly, I thought you had a bad leg, bud, but you seem to be feeling pretty good out there today.
16:36Three rushing touchdowns, one passing, nothing unexpected from you.
16:41You expected that kind of performance today, didn't you?
16:43Well, we took it a play at a time.
16:46I can't do any of those things without the guys around me, the preparation we put in.
16:51The run has been.
16:52We've got to finish it.
16:53Well, the last time I saw you, we were in the Super Bowl.
16:56I'll see you down in New Orleans.
16:58Thank you very much, Jalen.
16:59Good to see you again.
17:00Congratulations.
17:02All right, Eagle fans, I'll see you in New Orleans.
17:03Tremendous, really tremendous right there.
17:05Again, as I mentioned earlier, the only thing that bummed me out is that Howie never gets to speak in a moment like that.
17:09I just don't know how you skip the general manager.
17:11I mean, he puts the team together, and they just always skip him.
17:13I think it's outrageous.
17:14I thought Owner Lurie did an incredible job for the both of them.
17:17Owner Lurie.
17:18No, really, Jeffrey did a wonderful job.
17:20And the fact that he brought it back at the end, we're there to win it and all that.
17:25The Owner Lurie thing just really gives me a headache in the pants.
17:29Howie will get his flowers because he's going to wear GM of the year again.
17:33Well, he won't because the guy from Detroit won it, but I think he deserves it.
17:37That's a damn shame.
17:39You take a team that collapsed last year, and all of a sudden you get them back to this point.
17:44I think sometimes I believe those awards that they give away just on the regular season needs to be extended into the offseason.
17:51I think so, too.
17:52I wish they were.
17:53Owner Jones.
17:54Owner Jones in Dallas.
17:56Do you think he's ever been called Owner Jones?
17:58Owner Jones and GM Jones.
18:00He is the gift that keeps on giving.
18:02He really is.
18:03They're a mess.
18:04They're a mess down there.
18:05They are.
18:06215-592.
18:07Now they've got head coach Schottenheimer down there.
18:10Schottie! Schottie!
18:11I think he thought he was getting Marty.
18:13Yeah, man.
18:14I love Marty.
18:15I'm sorry.
18:16Did I say that?
18:17I know what you're saying there, Seth.
18:20God rest Marty's soul.
18:22Oh, I love Marty.
18:23All right.
18:24Coming up, more with Seth.
18:25Plus Time is yours, which should be electric.
