00:00I reckon cars probably go a lot faster than that.
00:07The 20mph speed limit on roads such as this was introduced 10 years ago between 2012 and
00:132015 and was officially implemented starting in January 2014.
00:18It was introduced to improve road safety, increase active travel and make the city's
00:22roads much more pleasant.
00:26Well I come from London so obviously there's cameras everywhere and then I drove my car
00:30up recently to Bristol and I found that there were barely any cameras anywhere so probably
00:34in residential areas would be good, maybe like some bumps or more things to stop, especially
00:38at night when you're crossing the roads and they just come speeding down.
00:42Last May, during their campaign, the Green Party in the city promised to make all roads
00:47in Bristol, where possible, a maximum of 20mph.
00:51Now many Bristol labourhoods are being asked what roads they would like to see have the
00:5720mph speed limit and during the next year this is going to be discussed.
01:03Would you like more to be done to improve speed limits on Bristol roads?
01:08Yeah, because I do drive so I think the traffic is quite bad.
01:14The study by the temporary insurance experts found that the city has an average speed on
01:19local A roads of 16.1mph.
01:23In terms of your experience of Bristol roads, what is it? Are they good? Are they bad?
01:29Sometimes it's good but when it's busy it's really bad and you can be stuck in there for
01:33hours and it just is kind of soul destroying.
01:37Probably still a bit, yeah, in terms of monitoring drivers. But that's as far as I know, I haven't
01:42driven much in Bristol recently.
01:45Probably no because a lot of the roads are quite, like 20 or 30 because the traffic is
01:51so bad most of the time, I'm not surprised, especially around rush hour. But I don't know
01:56how you would combat that.
