The UK’s first reusable cup scheme has launched in Glasgow in a drive to reduce single use products.

Borrow Cup is now available at over 40 locations across the city including Costa and Caffè Nero shops, Burger King, Tinderbox and Sprigg.

Customers can choose to pay a £1 deposit for the reusable cup when purchasing a drink, and then the next time they go to one of these locations they have the choice to either swap the cup for a clean one, return it and get their deposit back, or they can drop it off at any return point for a £1 e-voucher.

If this initial three month period proves successful there are plans to expand the scheme across Scotland.

Over 388 million disposable cups are used each year across Scotland and while 3 in 4 people own a reusable cup, only a third say they use it at least once a month.

Discounts and extra loyalty points at most participating locations are being offered to customers of the Borrow Cup to as encouragement.
