Padi farmers are hopeful that the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister's Office will result in an increase in the padi floor price and the withdrawal of the Quality Crop Seed Bill.

Malaysia Padi Farmers Brotherhood Association (PeSawah) chairman Abdul Rashid Yob, who led seven busloads of farmers on Monday (Jan 27), said the group gathered at the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry after being redirected from the Prime Minister's Office by police.

The farmers also voiced strong opposition to the Bill, claiming it was drafted without proper consultation with farmers across the country.

00:00Long live, long live, long live the farmers!
00:05Don't oppress, the farmers are in trouble!
00:10So, our meeting with Mr. Char Mingkai, who is the set poll for PMO.
00:19And our meeting today, basically, he agrees with what we brought today.
00:28First, I would like to state the statement regarding our request to increase the price from RM1,300 to RM1,800.
00:38Second, regarding the new law regarding the poll, which is the Law on Quality of Agriculture.
00:44So, here I would like to mention, and we hope that with the agreement from what we brought,
00:51and with the agreement from what we brought, we hope that this meeting will be held soon.
01:01And we hope that this meeting will be held soon, and we hope that this meeting will be held soon.
01:11The media statement regarding the visit of 1,000 farmers to Putrajaya on 26th January, 2025.
01:17Farmers demanded to increase the price of paddy fields,
01:20and to ban the sale and distribution of agricultural seeds.
01:26On 16th January, 2025, we have sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture,
01:31and informed that we will gather here today to discuss the issues faced by the local farmers.
01:40We would like to thank the Minister of Agriculture,
01:43for agreeing to accept the visit of the farmers who are here today with full of hope.
01:48We, the farmers from all over Malaysia,
01:52are here today to discuss and demand two main issues.
01:58First, the increase of the price of paddy fields.
02:02We urge the government to increase the price of paddy fields from RM1,300 per tonne to RM1,800 per tonne.
02:12The price of paddy fields is no longer relevant,
02:15following the increase of costs related to the sale and distribution of paddy fields,
02:20starting from 10th June, 2024.
02:23The increase of the price of paddy fields is important to ensure the survival of paddy fields,
02:28and to guarantee the supply of national food.
02:31The price of paddy fields at this time has not been set in 2023,
02:37and has been out of date and no longer relevant,
02:40due to the subsequent increase of costs related to the sale and distribution of paddy fields in 2024.
02:46Since 2023, various costs have increased.
02:51First, the price of paddy fields has increased twice since 2023.
02:57Currently, the price of paddy fields has increased to RM58 per tonne,
03:02from RM45 per tonne in 2023,
03:07which is the price of paddy fields at Pintu Kilang.
03:09The government has set the price of paddy fields at RM1,800 per tonne.
03:17Second, the price of paddy fields has increased due to the abolition of subsidies for the sale of paddy fields.
03:25This means that paddy fields have to bear the higher cost of the mission,
03:30which is known by the mission owners because they do not receive the fleet card for the sale of paddy fields.
03:36Third, the price of paddy fields has increased.
03:38The price of paddy fields has also increased in recent years,
03:43but the price of paddy fields has increased differently depending on the country and region.
03:46Next, the price of chemical pesticides has increased four times compared to two years ago.
03:54Finally, the price of paddy fields has increased by 55%.
04:04The price of paddy fields has increased by RM1,800 per tonne.
04:08The metric is important to ensure the sustainability of paddy fields and ensure the supply of national food.
04:15This will give incentives to paddy fields to continue to cultivate paddy fields and increase productivity.
04:23Second, the ban on the law on the quality of paddy fields.
04:29We ban the law on the quality of paddy fields, which is likely to be passed in the next session of parliament.
04:39The RUU is in place without any consultation with the farmers in this country.
04:45The RUU will require each individual who processes and generates paddy fields to obtain a license
04:54and send paddy samples to the factory for testing.
04:59We understand that the rule of law also stipulates a penalty of RM1,000 and three years in prison
05:09to the owner and producer of paddy fields that do not have a license.
05:14Following the increase in paddy field costs, the lack of paddy supplies and the deterioration of the quality of paddy fields
05:22in the past few years, almost 30% of paddy fields have started to process, share and sell paddy from their own paddy fields
05:33to save costs and get additional income in small amounts.
05:39We strongly oppose the RUU.
05:45The RUU is likely to burden small farmers like us.
05:50We hope that the government can pay serious attention to these issues
05:57and take reasonable action to ensure the sustainability and history of paddy fields
06:05as well as the guarantee of the country's food.
06:07Cooperation and immediate action by the government in this matter is highly appreciated.
06:13Today's decision, as I mentioned earlier, has been accepted.
06:19Secondly, from Mr. Cham Mekai, a political businessman, to the Prime Minister who has been represented
06:25agrees with what we brought two things earlier.
06:30We have asked the PMO, especially the PMX, to expedite the process
06:40so that the medium-sized paddy fields in the paddy field planting phase can meet the required price.
06:50Because the RM1,300 is for the information of the cost of each paddy farmer
06:57with the purchase of paddy fields.
06:58Because the increase in the cost of paddy fields by 55% has caused losses to the sector.
07:06Does the PMO agree with the paddy fields?
07:10As long as there are officials who have decided to meet us,
07:14the PMO has agreed with both of our requests.
07:18There will be a meeting between the PMO and the PMO.
07:24There will also be a special discussion between the PMO and the KPKM.
