George Bennett discusses reported interest in Walsall defender Harry Williams.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, Sadler's fans. I was at Essenton earlier today where I spoke to Matt Sadler
00:05about the situation regarding Harry Williams. A report emerged from Sky Sports late this
00:12morning that the Walsall defender had held talks with St Mirren over a potential January
00:18switch. The Express and Star understands that the Scottish club put in a bid for the 22-year-old
00:26which has been rejected by Walsall. When I spoke to Matt Sadler regarding player departures
00:33this month after the 4-2 defeat at Peterborough last week, he insisted that the squad will
00:41be staying together and he doesn't anticipate any departures. He echoed that message once
00:47again when I put the question to him regarding Williams. He said that Harry has been a joy
00:54to work with and feels that he has the ability to develop into a real leader in his own right.
01:00He said that his journey with Harry doesn't feel as if it's over and neither does he feel
01:04that Harry's journey at the club is either. So all but shut down the rumours that he could
01:11be on his way in January. Williams is out of contract at the end of the season. Walsall
01:19obviously activated that one-year extension at the back end of last season. The Express
01:27and Star put out a report earlier this month that he was hopeful of a further year extension
01:37in the previous summer transfer window which didn't come. Obviously the situation has very
01:42much changed with the defender enjoying a breakthrough season at best with 26 appearances
01:47and two goals in all competitions. Talks were believed to be held before Christmas and the
01:55situation is very much the same as it was earlier this month with Williams and his representatives
02:01hopeful of agreeing a deal over the coming months.
