00:00Authorities look more into the background of the Chinese national arrested for espionage.

00:05They learn more about the suspect's activities over the years that will hopefully help them

00:10piece together the motive behind his stay in the country or even whether he is under

00:16the employ of a particular nation.

00:19BTV's Ryan Lisegis has more.

00:23According to the records obtained by the Bureau of Immigration, the Chinese national arrested

00:28on alleged espionage charges has been in and out of the Philippines since 2015.

00:32He is reportedly married to a Filipina.

00:34The BI shared the details they obtained with the National Bureau of Investigation and the

00:39Department of Justice.

00:40According to BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Villado, no deportation will be enforced against

00:44the arrested suspect until the appropriate penalties are handed down.

00:48They will also assist in identifying possible accomplices in the Philippines.

00:53The Armed Forces of the Philippines does not consider the arrest of the alleged Chinese

00:57spy an isolated case.

00:59They are investigating possible connections with other incidents related to national security.

01:04It is part of a larger strategy that challenges our sovereignty and security.

01:11So therefore, sir, it is crucial for us to view these actions as interconnected elements

01:18that is part of a broader plan.

01:20The high-tech equipment confiscated from the arrested Chinese national is still under review.

01:25The suspect has also reportedly visited several EDCA sites and military facilities in Luzon,

01:31as well as power plants and NGCP substations last month.

01:34This equipment is used to map and survey our critical infrastructures, strategic areas,

01:45including our police and military camps and installations, our ports, our ports.

01:53And it's also glaring here, sir, Mike, that the malls are included, which is a very prominent place.
