00:10In Peru, in South America, a fossil was discovered that was believed to be led by one of the most terrifying creatures in our ocean, the Great White Shark.

00:20How old is this shark fossil?

00:23This is one of the most recent discoveries by paleontologists in the Pisco Basin in Peru.

00:33This is a fossil of Cosmopoliditus hastalis, a type of shark that is estimated to be 9 million years old.

00:39These sharks are extinct, but their jaws can reach up to 8.9 centimeters.

00:45While adult Cosmopoliditus hastalis can reach up to 7 meters in length.

00:50Did you know that this shark is believed to be the ancestor of one of the most terrifying creatures in our ocean?

00:59The Great White Shark

01:01Just like the Great White, the Cosmopoliditus hastalis are also predators.

01:05Their favorite prey is sardines in the Southern Pacific Ocean, where they live.

01:12But this is not the biggest fish that lives on our planet.

01:25The Megalodon or Otodus Megalodon is the biggest fish that has ever lived on our planet.

01:30They can reach up to 15 to 18 meters in length, which is three times bigger than the Great White Sharks.

01:36Because it doesn't have bones or fins, most of what we know about the life of this fish comes from the growth of its fossil teeth.

01:48This one is 5 inches long, and this one is 4.5 inches long.

01:53The Megalodon has the longest fossil teeth, which is 7.48 inches long.
