The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is urging the military government of Myanmar to pursue peace before holding elections. The country has been gripped by civil war since 2021.

00:00South-East Asian countries have sent a joint message to Myanmar's ruling junta, advising
00:06them not to hold an election during a civil war.
00:10But we told them election is not a priority at the moment. The priority now is to cease
00:15fire and everybody have to stand down. That is important. And access to all segment on
00:24humanitarian aid in Myanmar.
00:28The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, is urging the warring factions in
00:34member state Myanmar to engage in dialogue and find a path towards peace. Myanmar has
00:40been embroiled in a civil war since its military staged a coup in 2021. The UN estimates over
00:4717 million people in the country need humanitarian aid.
