00:03Many of our fellow Filipinos have achieved that last year.

00:07But did you know that when it comes to the fashion industry,

00:11there are also Filipino designers who are making their mark in America?

00:15Not only in America, but also in Paris and London.

00:19And our ambassadors are also participating in New York Fashion Week.

00:24That's why we need to introduce our guests this morning.

00:27Ma'am Grace Brocal and Ma'am Lynette Garay-Serdena.

00:31Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.

00:36Ma'am Grace, how did your interest in fashion start?

00:41Well, first of all, thank you so much for the opportunity, Rise and Shine, and also K-Store Mix.

00:48I got inspired by my mom.

00:51Because in the province, there are no fashion designers.

00:55But my mom loves clothes, and she also sews.

01:00So growing up, there were no boutiques in Bicol.

01:04And I would really just like to dress up.

01:06And then, actually, becoming a fashion designer was just by accident.

01:11And I think it's a call because I really have a mission.

01:15Apparently, both of them, Ma'am Grace and Ma'am Lynette, are in the health sector.

01:21You're a physical therapist.

01:22I am a physical therapist.

01:24And Ma'am Lynette is an RN, registered nurse.

01:27I wonder, how is that?

01:29So you're busy with your work as PT, and then you're doing on-the-side fashion?

01:42I'm from Albay, Bicol, Albay.

01:49Ma'am Grace, you're known as a fashion designer.

01:53But when did you really start?

01:56And how did you get to know each other?

01:58Yes, it's like a blessing because my children, hello to Christine and Kaitlyn,

02:03when they were in the USA watching.

02:06They got invited as a model because my youngest is Little Miss West Virginia Earth 2019.

02:14So my children were invited to model.

02:17And the first time we went to New York Fashion Week, it was very, very amazing

02:22because we were with Miss Universe Pia.

02:25So from there, I got to know Rian Fernandez backstage.

02:30And then I was just inspired that, wow, Filipinos are really good.

02:36And then it just starts from there.

02:38I got to know the CEO.

02:40And then I was just happy because I just really want to help our fellow Filipinos

02:46to showcase themselves.

02:49Okay.

02:52Let's go to Ma'am Lynette.

02:54Ma'am Lynette, tell us about your story.

02:55How did you start to enter the fashion industry?

03:00Year 2012, I was in a mall.

03:04I was walking and then suddenly a designer approached me if I wanted to be a model.

03:13As in, that's where it started.

03:16That's where you were scouted, right?

03:18You were given a break.

03:19How was it?

03:20From being an unregistered nurse, you went back to fashion.

03:26It was okay.

03:27But it was hard to keep up because when you're in the hospital,

03:32you don't have a fixed schedule.

03:35There's a graveyard shift.

03:37So it's hard.

03:39I thought she was also having a catwalk in the hospital.

03:41She's having a catwalk, right?

03:43I'm always rampaging.

03:45But until now, Ma'am Lynette is still rampaging.

03:48Now, in 2025, there will be upcoming shows.

03:51Yes, there will be.

03:53So she's still active.

03:54Yes, she's still active.

03:55By 2025, this January,

03:59my fashion show in Fisher Mall will end on Sunday.

04:10Ma'am Grace, your boleros are beautiful.

04:14This is made of love of Bicolans.

04:16We are helping promote our sustainable livelihood.

04:21Weavers of Bicolans.

04:23So we're helping them at the same time.

04:25We're helping our Filipino countrymen.

04:30So not only will you be beautiful in people's eyes,

04:34but you're also helping.

04:35I think this is the reason why we are booming.

04:38Because it's really helping our countrymen.

04:41That's our goal.

04:42What materials did you use?

04:44It's made of cow dung.

04:45So it's hand-weaved.

04:47Yes.

04:51You'll be the model.

04:53And then we're also inviting ordinary people.

04:57They're not really fashion or model.

05:01But you have the opportunity to be a model in runway.

05:13Our dream when we were kids.

05:19How was the experience?

05:21In New York, Paris, London.

05:24It's amazing.

05:25I didn't dream of this.

05:27But I think I have a call.

05:28Because when Steadfast started,

05:31I just wanted to be afflicted with the pandemic.

05:35Anxiety, depression,

05:38and you know when you wear something,

05:40it makes the model beautiful.

05:42And their self-esteem,

05:44I'm happy.

05:46And I think I said,

05:47this is a mission for me.

05:49To help other people.

05:50Especially in the mental health of people.

05:52So Ms. Loretta, are you open for collaboration with Ms. Grace?

05:55Of course.

05:56Actually, I already invited her in New York.

06:00And for aspiring models,

06:03designers,

06:04I wonder what are the pieces of advice you have for them?

06:07For you.

06:08For me?

06:12Just be patient.

06:13Just be patient.

06:14And just continue with what you really want.

06:18Don't give up.

06:20That's all.

06:21And it's funny because aside from doing their profession,

06:25being a nurse,

06:26and being a physical therapist,

06:28they really find time to do such advocacy,

06:32and to pursue such hobby,

06:34and their passion.

06:36For you, what's your advice?

06:37For me, it's persistence.

06:39And then don't give up.

06:40Because for me, I'm pity.

06:42But sometimes,

06:43you don't give up,

06:44but it's a calling for you to help other people.

06:47Just help.

06:48I just focus on helping people.

06:50And then this happened.

06:51And at the same time,

06:52I'm here in Rise and Shine.
