00:00Investment in trains, investment in Wirral, Crazy Golf set to go global and
00:06your chance to own your own Jurassic Park. That's what's coming up in today's
00:10Daily Business Briefing.
00:17Hi I'm Simon Keegan. I'm Remy Greasley. So Remy, one place in the Northwest where
00:24Insider's done a lot of events that I've really enjoyed delivering has been on
00:28the Wirral. There's been a lot there, you know, in my time as Editor at Insider
00:33I've seen the place really develop with Wirral waters and so on and there's
00:38I believe we've got some new news coming out of the Wirral. Yeah, so you spoke about our
00:43events there. One thing that we've heard about quite a long time I think is the
00:46Hind Street development. Yes. And what that is, it's this sort of quite large
00:50redevelopment of a, I think it's a form of gas works adjacent to Birkenhead
00:54Town Centre and that's sort of a project expected to bring I think it's
00:58over a thousand homes, maybe even up to the sort of 1,500 range. Yeah. But yeah so
01:06it's been in the sort of process for a long time but yeah so recently it's got
01:12the vote from councillors. It's all happening. Yeah, they've passed it
01:16and so now Wirral Council's Chief Planner, great job title I think, can now
01:23say yeah we can give it the go-ahead subject to approval from the Secretary
01:28of State. But no, once that sort of gets going it's expected to start work in
01:33autumn of this year. Oh right. Yeah, I mean Wirral's been one of those places. Really has.
01:38Seems to be developing quite quickly and this is another big one for them I think.
01:43And yeah, I think you've got some stuff for us as well Simon. Absolutely, well
01:49talking of investment, Northern Trains are making some I would say much-needed
01:55investment and one of the biggest pieces of investment they've ever made.
02:00They're taking on 450 new trains. Now I've been on some antiques in my, you
02:07know, so I think some of these trains go back to about the 1980s so it's about
02:11time. So what they're doing is they're inviting train manufacturers to pitch
02:18for the work, to tender for these, so maybe we'll get some really
02:22exciting new trains. They're looking at sort of electric and diesel and
02:27stuff like that. Trains of the future really. Trains of the future, yeah, well I'm talking of a
02:31glimpse into the future. Last week we were at our Shaping Cities event, weren't we?
02:37And we really sort of got a look at how cities are going to take shape and I
02:43know you spoke to some of the panellists after the event, didn't you, to get a
02:47little bit more insight. Tell us about that. I mean, yeah, it was such a wide event. We heard so much but one
02:53thing that I think really stuck with me personally was hearing from Daniel
02:57Bolger. So Daniel founded, I'm sure you heard of it, Golf Fang? Yes. Part of the
03:03Big Fang Collective in 2016 I believe. First one was in Liverpool and what it
03:08is, it's sort of a crazy golf, you know, sort of experience. Yeah, well I've been to the
03:13one in Liverpool. It's at the old Cairns Brewery and it's kind of an adult themed
03:17crazy golf, isn't it? So some of the obstacles are a bit rude and things like
03:22that but I can imagine, I mean, maybe we should have a team party. Maybe we should have a
03:26Christmas do though one year or something. Danny, if you're watching. It's
03:31really good fun, isn't it? So they're really expanding now. Yeah, so they've
03:35got, I think it's about seven sites throughout the north down to Nottingham, I
03:39think. But they're finally getting into the London market and it's quite huge for
03:43them. Yeah. It's going to cost, you know, millions to sort of set up. Right. You
03:48know, their first Liverpool site was a hundred thousand. So yeah, after London
03:53though, Danny was saying that I think in franchising, going global, which I think
03:58somewhere that started in Liverpool, that's really exciting. That's great for the
04:01Northwest but it makes sense, doesn't it? Because that kind of experiential sort
04:07of day out, that's going to be popular anywhere, isn't it? Yeah, so we
04:12mentioned one of our great property events there and we've also got one this
04:16week. We've got the Residential Property Awards coming up on Thursday. So don't
04:19forget about that, guys. We've also got the State of the City Region event on
04:24January the 29th. Got some amazing speakers for that. We've got the Chief
04:28Economist from NatWest is going to be there to give us a financial outlook.
04:33We've also got the likes of Matthew Scullion, the founder of Matillion.
04:38That's very exciting. Amazing. We've got Steve Byrne from Travel
04:42Counsellors. You know, some really, really good speakers. So definitely, guys, if
04:46you've not got your tickets for that, you should check that out. We've
04:50also got in February the first ever UK Dealmakers. So we've done
04:56Dealmakers in the regions for 30 years. This is the first time we've done a UK
05:00one with all of the winners from the regions going forward to crown the
05:05grand champion, if you like. That's in the ICC in Birmingham. But what we've
05:10done is we've created a guide, a brochure, really, with all of the
05:15shortlists in. So you can get that on our website. The link will be below and you
05:20can just download that free of charge. So take a look at that. It's well worth
05:24the read. I'm going to finish with a bit of an and finally. All this of an and
05:29finally. Yeah. So if you've ever fancied your own Jurassic Park, the Dinosaur Park
05:36in Tenby is up for sale and it comes with about 36 rides and attractions and
05:4390 dinosaurs as well. That's something. It is. What's your favourite dinosaur? I think
05:50probably any flying dinosaur. Right. I'm a Triceratops man myself. Yeah. I would have said
05:57T-Rex. Yeah. Yeah. Triceratops. Underrated. Underrated. Definitely. Well look, all of
06:03these stories, the links are going to be below and you can follow us on Twitter,
06:09you can follow us on LinkedIn and we'll see you at the events. Thank you.
