00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann. I'm bringing you another skin care
00:04health hack that has been trending on social media.
00:07This time we're going to be talking about banana peels.
00:11There are a lot of skin care tips and tricks
00:14on social media but the latest one to be making headlines is banana peels.
00:19Influencers are claiming that it gives a natural
00:22Botox effect but does it really and is it good for our skin?
00:27Let's find out. The viral trend involves rubbing a banana peel on your face and
00:33neck and leaving that substance of the banana
00:36peel on your face and neck for about 10 minutes before washing it off
00:40with claims that this will leave your skin exfoliated
00:43and also tightened with a natural Botox effect.
00:48However experts have debunked the claims and have warned
00:52that using banana peels in this way could actually end up
00:55irritating your skin. Head scientist Dr David Reilly from Absolute Collagen
01:00explained that whilst exfoliation is an essential step
01:04in your skincare regime, using a banana peel
01:07is far from ideal. Dr Reilly explained that whilst there may be some nutrients
01:12in banana peels, your skin cannot absorb these through direct application
01:17and that by rubbing a banana peen on your face you may actually cause
01:21irritation to the skin.
