Charlie Bennett spoke to Eddie Howe ahead of Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth.
Transcript
00:00Hello everybody, I'm here at Newcastle United's media centre, where Eddie Howe has just been
00:05speaking to the press in that building just behind us. And yeah, ahead of tomorrow's game
00:10against Bournemouth, can Newcastle make it ten wins in a row? That would be a club record.
00:15And some people, you know, it was put to them in the press conference earlier, does that
00:19put him in the same bracket as Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson? Now obviously there's a
00:24cup final coming up, neither of them manage as legendary as they are on Tyneside, were
00:28able to win a trophy. If Newcastle were to get over the line in the Cowabunga Cup, or
00:33perhaps the FA Cup, or perhaps the Premier League, as some people have been starting
00:37to talk about, where would that elevate Eddie Howe? Would that put him above Keegan or Bobby
00:41Robson? I know a lot of fans like to have rose-tinted glasses when looking into the
00:45past, you know, the entertainers era, as I mentioned in the video yesterday, a little
00:49bit before my time, and I only saw the back end of the Sir Bobby Robson era. So for me
00:54right now, Eddie Howe is the best manager I've seen at Newcastle, I was only a little
00:58nipper when Bobby Robson was in the dugout. So yeah, if I throw that one back in your
01:03direction, Eddie Howe, Sir Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan, where would you rank them three managers
01:09of the Premier League era for Newcastle? The other big story, obviously Miguel Almaron,
01:14he's the talk of Tyneside at the minute, it's his six-year time at St James' Park
01:19come to an end. Eddie Howe was asked directly, you know, is Almaron going to stay? What's
01:25the current situation? And it looks as though he's going to train today, and he's going
01:30to be in the matchday squad tomorrow, but Eddie Howe sort of conceded that it's looking
01:34likely that he could be on his way out the door before the January window is over. He's
01:39been a good servant, Eddie Howe said, he spoke about his attitude. I thought the key line
01:43that Eddie Howe said was, he lives his life through the club. Now obviously, he's come
01:47from the MLS, his English was not perfect, it's obviously still not great. Every day
01:53Almaron's in here giving his graft, giving his all, giving his 100%, and you see that
01:57every time he steps onto the pitch. So for how limited he might be as a player, I think
02:02Newcastle fans are always going to wish somebody like Miguel Almaron well when he does leave
02:07the club. On the injury front, there's not much to talk about really. Eddie Howe confirmed
02:12that it's going to be a similar squad, if not the same, that beat Wolves 3-0 on Wednesday.
02:17Fabian Scherr was the bigger mission there for Willness, he said it's going to be touch
02:20and go on him whether he's fit for tomorrow, and that poses the biggest dilemma for Newcastle
02:26ahead of this weekend. The centre-back situation, it's a real dilemma, a good dilemma to have,
02:30but a dilemma nonetheless. Do you go with Sven Botman, the big money signing, who's probably
02:35Newcastle's best centre-half, but he's coming back from a serious injury. Fabian Scherr,
02:40Mr Consistent, obviously missed a game for Willness the other day, a Rolls Royce of a
02:45centre-half, or do you go to Dan Byrne? You can only play two of them, you've got three
02:49to choose from. Dan Byrne has probably been Newcastle's best player this season, Alexander
02:53Isakneside. He's been an ever-consistent performer for Eddie Howe. So yeah, that's the big talking
02:58points from the press conference. As always, we'll have full coverage on Newcastle World.
