00:00Good evening, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
00:05President Bongbong Marcos is asking for support
00:09in the recommendation to declare a food security emergency for rice.
00:14The government has already done all the steps to control the price of rice.
00:18And when it is implemented,
00:20thousands of bags of rice will be released to the market by the National Food Authority
00:25to lower the price.
00:27This is Bernadette Rey.
00:31President Bongbong Marcos himself said that he has already done everything
00:36to lower the price of rice,
00:38but this is still not happening.
00:40That is why, just now, the President asked for support
00:43in his recommendation to declare the Department of Agriculture
00:47a food security emergency for rice.
00:49Well, we are still waiting for the recommendation of the Rice Coordinating Council,
00:55but maybe next week,
00:56the DA will formally accept his recommendation.
01:02And the recommendation, I believe, is going to be to declare an emergency.
01:06When the food security emergency is declared,
01:09the buffer stock of rice can be released by the National Food Authority
01:13and will be added to what is being sold in the market.
01:16When this happens, the price of rice will be lowered.
01:20The reason that we are doing this
01:22is that we have already done everything to lower the price of rice,
01:27but the market is not being allowed to work properly.
01:32The demand and supply curve is not being followed
01:36because until now, even if you lower all the inputs,
01:40the sales are still high.
01:42And so, we have to force that price down
01:45and we have to make sure that the market works properly.
01:48According to the NFA,
01:50they currently have around 700,000 bags of rice in their warehouse.
01:54In addition to this, they also have impacted rice that is not yet growing.
01:58If we follow the food blast method,
02:01and we grow all of that,
02:03the whole country will have around 5.7 million bags.
02:09Now, for calamities,
02:12we know that we will not be without that,
02:15but we know that we will not be able to produce all of that.
02:22Our Kadiwa kiosks are already there.
02:25That is what is planned.
02:27All of the former retailers of the NFA,
02:30the latest accredited retailers that we have visited,
02:35they will be the first to be set up,
02:37even if it will be lowered.
02:39Another program of the Department of Agriculture continues
02:42to produce rice.
02:45Here in Murphy Market in Cabao, Quezon City,
02:48rice for all has been reduced to P38 per kilo since today.
02:52This is what the rice looks like up close.
02:55If we call this rice 25%,
02:58it means that 25% of the grains are broken.
03:01Aside from that, they are also selling solid rice here.
03:06This is the 100% broken rice.
03:08For us, it's hard.
03:10It suits us.
03:12It's on budget.
03:14In Pasay City Public Market,
03:16P38 per kilo of rice will also arrive today.
03:19It's good. It's expensive.
03:21And it's cheap.
03:23This is our bestseller here.
03:25The Department of Agriculture also assured
03:27that the supply of cheap rice is sufficient.
