00:00Catherine, Princess of Wales kicked off her 2025 public duties with some excellent health news,
00:05the announcement of a new role, and a surprise visit that offers some hope to others facing
00:09down a cancer diagnosis. A post on the Prince and Princess of Wales' official ex-account,
00:14signed C to indicate that Catherine herself wrote it, read in part,
00:17"'It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery.'"
00:21The welcome news that Kate Middleton's cancer is in remission came alongside a photo from
00:25a surprise January 14, 2024 visit to the Royal Marsden, the London Cancer Treatment Centre,
00:30where Kate received her own cancer care. W Magazine noted that the visit marked her
00:34first solo royal outing in more than a year.
00:37"'She actually said it was nice to walk in publicly as opposed to
00:42privately going in a side entrance.'"
00:45Princess Catherine wrote of the Royal Marsden in her ex-post,
00:48"'We couldn't have asked for more. The care and advice we have received
00:51throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.'"
00:54Kate also mentioned that she and her husband, William, Prince of Wales,
00:57have become joint patrons of the Royal Marsden. She wrote,
01:00"'My hope is that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence,
01:04as well as promoting patient and family well-being, we might save many more lives
01:08and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.'"
01:11Kate added that she was looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.
01:14The response to Kate's post announcing her omission and patronage was
01:17overwhelmingly positive and supportive. The Royal Marsden's official account replied, writing,
01:22"'Thank you so much for these lovely words and shining a light on the work that happens
01:26at the Royal Marsden every day.'"
01:28Many of the other comments from followers resembled this one from an ex-user.
01:31"'Such wonderful, heartwarming news about your health,' paired with a beautiful,
01:35heartfelt message to the brilliant doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of Royal Marsden."
01:40Kate offered some thanks to her supporters in her ex-post, writing,
01:43"'My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me
01:47as we have navigated everything.'"
01:49Kate's return visit to the Royal Marsden comes a little less than 10 months after
01:52her March 2024 announcement that she was undergoing cancer treatment.
01:56"'My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of
01:59preventative chemotherapy and I'm now in the early stages of that treatment.'"
02:03The specific type of cancer Kate had has never been revealed,
02:06but the princess had undergone abdominal surgery that January.
02:10She said in her March announcement video that doctors found cancer through testing
02:13after the procedure. Kate remained out of the public eye through much of 2024,
02:17but she did make a few sparse public appearances. She attended Trooping the
02:21Colour in June, then was seen in the stands at the men's Wimbledon final in July.
02:25That September, she announced in a video that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.
02:29"'Last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family.
02:33Life as you know it can change in an instant.'"
02:35In October, Kate made a public engagement for a very sad reason,
02:39visiting Southport alongside Prince William to meet families of victims of a knife attack at
02:43a dance class. She then attended Remembrance Sunday in November. She made two more appearances
02:48alongside William in December, first at the state visit from Qatar, though she was only present for
02:52the Greetings and Horse Guards parade, not the banquet. She, William, and their three children
02:57were all also present for the Together at Christmas Carol service at Westminster Abbey.
