00:00Great. May I introduce you to the choir again?
00:02My pleasure.
00:11So, may I introduce you to the set?
00:14Why is it we're always walking together?
00:16Yeah, hello. Nicky.
00:18Nicky, what's up?
00:19Yeah, good.
00:20Are you doing well?
00:21Yes, thanks. Helen says hello.
00:23She says, hiya.
00:25Are you all right?
00:27Are you giving a tour today?
00:29I am, yeah.
00:30Good.
00:31It'll be tiki subjects, but you'll hopefully enjoy it.
00:34There's a bit of video with all the intercom footage.
00:37What's your one on?
00:38It's a Helms case.
00:39Karl and I worked together on Helms.
00:41Oh, OK.
00:42You might recognise the helicopter.
00:44It's a Helms case that was very unusual.
00:47It went completely against the sort of ops norm
00:50and caused a lot of challenges.
00:52And the theme of today was under pressure,
00:54so Karl said, can I sort of try to recreate
00:56the sort of feelings that I was dealing with on that
00:58and come to fruition.
01:00So it's really good, positive.
01:01Good.
01:02Really good.
01:03Someone's got to keep an eye on you lot.
01:05You don't want to keep them too long.
01:07LAUGHTER
01:09And, Tracey, you'll see it.
01:10Yes, that's what I said.
01:12I can't believe he said that.
01:13LAUGHTER
01:15It's fabulous.
01:16Good to have the quality half.
01:18That's the right thing to do.
01:20It's fabulous.
01:21And what role are you in at the moment?
01:23I'm chief tech.
01:25Oh, my goodness.
01:27OK.
01:28First year.
01:29First year?
01:30A few months in.
01:31Just done a second shift.
01:33No way.
01:34How did you find it?
01:36I feel like I have a bit of a care in the air.
01:39I just...
01:40Yeah.
01:49How do you balance the two?
01:51Er...
01:52I don't know, I do a lot.
01:54To be honest, I don't really have a lot of time for anything else.
01:58But the networking, ideally,
02:00because I'm really interested in critical care,
02:02getting into critical care pathways.
02:04I've only been a paramedic for about two years.
02:06Most of the critical care jobs are three-, four-year post-reg.
02:09So a bit of networking, CPD.
02:12And there's also a lot of change happening as well with the paramedics
02:15in the Air Force.
02:17I think we're coming off into our own profession now as well.
02:20Is it?
02:21I think, yeah.
02:23It's quite handy.
02:24It's very good, yeah.
02:25Just more specialists, isn't it, really?
02:27Yeah, I think it's realising now
02:29what the skills of a paramedic actually are
02:31and how much we can do, and then using it.
02:34It's probably more thinking about higher education.
02:36So I think looking at some of the things
02:39that we could be doing in that area.
02:41I think looking at just bringing everyone in to a shared...
02:47So, as with Lawrence, he's dipped in and out with one day a week
02:51and, yeah, but we tend to stay within our roles.
02:56But we work as a team.
02:58I'm particularly pleased to be standing here
03:00as the College of Paramedics' new patron
03:02and to have the opportunity to join your first-ever
03:05Emergency and Critical Care Conference.
03:07Thank you to everyone who's made this event possible.
03:10Often referred to as the Swiss Army knife of frontline healthcare,
03:15paramedics and those in the emergency services
03:18are adaptable, multi-skilled
03:20and, crucially, know how to work under pressure.
03:23And I am so proud to become patron of an organisation
03:26which is committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing
03:29of paramedics and fostering an environment
03:31where all paramedics can thrive.
03:34In this country, we owe an enormous debt of gratitude
03:37to our emergency services.
03:39As paramedics and whatsoever guys,
03:42your work uniquely places tremendous demands upon you,
03:46and I cannot thank you enough for all that you do.
03:50APPLAUSE
