A warm, sunny morning in the Blue Mountains changed rapidly today as hail and strong winds assaulted villages in the afternoon. The storm, which hit Springwood at around 3.15pm on January 15, turned from a light drizzle to a thunderous barrage of ice within minutes. Less than an hour earlier, NSW SES had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall, with specific mention to Katoomba.
