UK's Princess Kate thanks staff at Royal Marsden for cancer treatment
Kate, Britain's Princess of Wales, visits the London hospital where she received treatment for cancer on Jan. 14, 2025 to personally thank medics for their care and support, her office said. Kate, 43, underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy after major abdominal surgery a year ago revealed the presence of cancer, meaning she was only well enough to carry out a handful of public engagements for the remainder of 2024. On her first solo trip since returning to official duties, Kate paid a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in central London where she herself had undergone treatment which concluded in September. Last year saw a traumatic 12 months for the royal family with King Charles also undergoing treatment for cancer.

00:00Yes, it was wonderful to see her coming in through the front door and with an official
00:24visit and announcing her joint patronage with the Prince of Wales.
00:29As I said, it's amazing for the Royal Marsden and for our patients and staff that they've
00:32both taken that responsibility on and it's been a wonderful visit and a huge credit to
00:38her because it can't have been easy.
00:50Yes, she seemed to really have an understanding of what they were going through and she was
00:55really good with the patients and it was good, I think, for both of them to have support
01:01of each other.
01:10I think it's massive and really important for people to have someone so high profile going
01:20through this experience because I think it will allow people to talk about it more and
01:26recognise it a little bit more, so I think that's very important, yeah.
01:38It's really uplifting for both patients and staff and, of course, the Princess is able
01:42to talk to patients from her own personal experience, so it's uplifting for patients
01:48and staff, it's great for the hospital, it shines a light on the work we do day in and
01:52day out for patients and their families.
02:08The Princess is wonderfully natural, you'll have seen patients actually hugging her and
02:14identifying with her, so it was very moving, very touching and I'm sure it was moving for her also.
