A Bangladeshi construction worker was charged at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court with the murder of an Indonesian woman, who was found dead in a budget hotel room in Puchong two weeks ago.

MD Shimul Babu, 23, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal on Tuesday (Jan 14).

00:04who was found dead in a budget hotel room two weeks ago.
00:08MD Shimul Babu nodded in understanding after the charge was read
00:12before Magistrate Amira Sariati Zainal.
00:15However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
00:20According to the charge sheet, Shimul allegedly killed 39-year-old Nurhayati,
00:25who worked as a cleaner in a hotel room in Taman Mawar, Puchong,
00:29at 10.12pm on December 31st last year.
00:32He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code,
00:36which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
00:39The 23-year-old was also charged with entering Malaysia without valid travel documents
00:45at the Serdang District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Office
00:50at 4.30pm on January 3rd.
00:53He pleaded not guilty to the charge which falls under Section 6,
00:56subsection 1C of the Immigration Act,
00:59and provides for a fine not exceeding 10,000 ringgit
01:02or a jail term of up to five years or both, and whipping.
01:06During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Malik Fauzi
01:11did not offer bail for both charges.
01:13The court then set March 14th for next mention of the case.
