00:00Our ambition is not just to be an AI superpower but also make sure that this benefits working people.
00:07Potholes are the thing that many of us try to avoid while driving.
00:11But with so many spanning across the county, driving around them can often be unavoidable.
00:17Especially if you notice them too late.
00:19Look, pothole.
00:21Argh!
00:23Didn't want to swerve too much.
00:25This means that it's not only our roads that are damaged but our cars too.
00:29One there, and you've got another one there.
00:32That's caused by potholes.
00:35The owner of AK Motors says that he gets at least two people a week needing car repairs after hitting potholes.
00:42He thinks that the government's plans are a good thing but is concerned due to the amount of work that needs to be done.
00:48Especially in the Medway area.
00:50It has got worse because one, the council hasn't got the money to repair them.
00:55And then there's so many, they say there's only 2,000 potholes in Medway.
01:00But I can assure you there's more than 2,000 potholes.
01:03You can go down a couple of streets and you get 1,000 potholes.
01:06So there's a hell of a lot of potholes around.
01:09How does it measure how deep the pothole is?
01:12So that's something that's going to come out.
01:15We can only see when it comes out really because it's far-fetched.
01:20But you know, who knows.
01:22Ayo is a resident in Rochester and has a pothole right outside his home.
01:26He has paid out for new tyres multiple times due to damage from potholes in his area.
01:31He thinks the AI may be useful but is unsure if it will be enough as he says repairs often don't last that long.
01:38Although yes, we have got some damage.
01:40I have some damage on previous potholes just going up to Gillingham.
01:44So yeah, potholes are just expected.
01:47We know try to just avoid them or just brace for it once we are going to get to impact.
01:52I appreciate there is some work being done but at the same time we are aware that they don't last in regards to the work being done to the potholes because they just come back.
02:01With the government proposing plans to implement AI to inspect roads and spot potholes, these issues may become a problem of the past.
02:08But with so many across the county, will AI be enough to make a real change?
