00:00Yeah for sure you know it wasn't the easiest match to start but I'm happy
00:07that I don't know I kind of played better I feel I did at the end of the
00:11second set so I was able to learn from you know what I did wrong in first
00:17sometimes when she broke back and everything but yeah for sure I think it
00:22was a solid match and I'm happy that I'm through to the second round.
00:25Any questions? Courtney. Congrats Iga. I know you talked about a little bit on the
00:32court but using the coaching box that's on court does it feel markedly different
00:37having them that much closer than when you would have them typically at a
00:41tournament? I think it's much more convenient because well we can use the
00:46coaching and we don't we don't need to if we don't want to but but you know I
00:52think these rules with coaching they were nice for smaller courts but if you
00:58play on a stadium it's impossible to hear the coach anyway so now actually
01:01makes more sense because both if you play on smaller courts you can use it if
01:08you play on a stadium as well so actually now I think it finally makes
01:11sense so yeah I like it I mean it's our choice if we want to use it or not and
01:19if we have you have a good communication with your coach I think it
01:23might work. During the last few months of last year you had to live some fairly
01:32unsettling experiences and sometimes that can lead people to re-evaluate who
01:39they are and think a lot about themselves and what they do I was
01:43wondering if you could tell us what that experience left you and how that
01:49made you a different person or a better person? Well I think just accepting the
01:56fact that sometimes you're not gonna have control over some stuff in your
02:00life and this situation can happen and then you have to deal with it for sure
02:06it's gonna like it was a big lesson and it's gonna help me like in like I
02:13other aspects in my life so so this one was the biggest one I would say.
02:17Howard? Following up on Courtney's question would you mind giving one
02:25example of something you might have heard today that was helpful? Honestly
02:32today I knew what mistakes I did and it was more me talking to him and being
02:38angry about some shots that I didn't make as I wanted to though I'm not I
02:44don't think I'm supposed to talk so let's pretend I didn't say that and but
02:49yeah I mean today I didn't feel like I needed coaching I just I knew what I
02:53needed to improve so I just focused on the tips that I gave to myself kind of.
02:57Is there even I don't know a comfort level maybe or just the idea that if you
03:04did need something they're close and easier to hear them. Yeah I think it's it
03:09can be helpful and as I said like we had this rule for a long time now but we
03:15should play on a stadium you you couldn't use the coaching anyway you
03:18didn't hear what people are saying to you so so yeah now I just feel like they
03:25may might like follow our feedback the tournament and it makes more sense for
03:30sure. Congratulations I just wondered you've found the Australian Open tricky
03:38over recent seasons have you changed your preparation at all for this one to
03:42try and finally get that first title here under your belt? Well I think
03:46overall the preparation is a bit changed because of a different coach you know so
03:52so I feel like that was enough of a change and we're obviously like working
03:57a little bit differently because it's always different when you change coaches
04:01so so yeah but I didn't feel like my I mean maybe last two years the mistake
04:10was for sure not having your own hitting partner and this year I have a hitting
04:15partner in my team too on this tournament as well but but honestly like
04:21I wouldn't say this my preparation during last year's was really bad you
04:25know sometime I for sure felt like my level was going down during the
04:30tournament but hard to say why you know you're not always gonna have answers but
04:36I guess you know I need to keep my expectations low and just focus on the
04:41work and focus on playing better and better if I can because for sure these
04:46are not like the easiest like the easiest surface for me for example so I
04:54just have to keep grinding and and fighting for every ball. I think a major
04:58positive stat for you if you weren't aware is that since the start of the
05:012020 season you are the only woman to reach the second round at every single
05:04Grand Slam played so maybe you can take that back to your camp and say the positive direction.
05:10Yeah I only I think lost once in the first round it was at Wimbledon 2019 so
05:14I wish this tournament I wish I didn't play so my stat would be perfect but
05:20yeah I mean I'm happy it shows that I'm consistent and I always kind of I take a
05:26lot of just I'm just more confident I think before a slam even playing this
05:34first match I know that no matter what's gonna happen like I have I have kind of
05:38this stat so I should just do what I always do and it'll be good.
05:43Okay we'll go to Charlie and then Howard.
05:46I should also ask, you won your first Grand Slam as a teenager and there are
05:51currently I think there's one teenager in the top 100 even do you think it's
05:55yeah I think that's I think it's only Mira which is do you think it's getting
06:00even harder to for young players to make that breakthrough and if so why might
06:06that be?
06:11I don't know I the only difference I see now comparing to like five years ago is
06:15that me, Irina and some other players on top are pretty consistent so maybe if
06:22you have us on a draw there's less probability that we're gonna flop
06:28suddenly you know in first rounds or something but I don't know like I don't
06:34know it's hard to say I didn't even know about this so yeah maybe I'll think
06:39about it but hard to say I don't think it's harder like I mean transitioning
06:46from juniors to pro is always tricky and tough I mean mine transition was pretty
06:53smooth so I can't really say a lot about this experience because I think other
07:02players have it a bit tougher journey but I don't know it's a good question
07:08for sure yeah for sure for sure yeah for sure it's more physical like we're I
07:14think we take care of ourselves and we work harder on the gym than I mean the
07:22previous generation I would say it's not my opinion it's more about what I heard
07:26on tour you know from people that actually have been here like 10 years
07:30ago but but I think tennis overall is evolving and and you need to take care
07:37of more stuff and you need to get better and better if you want to succeed
07:41so I think over the years we are progressing a bit as a at least overall
07:46they lost to an English Howard then met how much do you pay attention to want to
07:55see what they are the statistics after a match either that you on your own might
08:00look at numbers or your coach might yeah I think mostly the coaches tell me their
08:12feedbacks from statistics because I'm not that kind of person that would go
08:16through them and just you know see how I played it's I based my feeling on what I
08:21actually remember from the match and the feelings that I had during the match
08:26sometimes it might not be accurate actually to the statistics but this you
08:31know combined with my coaches feedback I think it's a perfect mix and usually
08:36they are the one looking at the stats particular number ever that maybe we'll
08:45say oh I did that okay that's why I probably first serves in and winnings
08:53after first serve percentage that's important for me okay last one in
08:59English yeah it was a little bit unusual perhaps to see you at John Kane arena
09:04today position at the top of the game you're most often on center courts at
09:08every Grand Slam I think it was three years since you've been you've played at
09:12that court and it's quite a unique court we call it the people's court here it's
09:16open to ground pass holders it's got a bit of a different atmosphere what was
09:19it like for you today to experience that because it's been such a while
09:23honestly I don't know I got used to Polish people coming to my matches and
09:28every year I feel like there's more and more crowds so I really appreciate that
09:32and the support is always great I didn't notice you know that I haven't played on
09:39a smaller court like for three years but I don't mind honestly I love I love
09:46playing here on every stadium and on John Kane I played some amazing matches
09:51and I remember with contabate with on it yeah we played fourth round and that was
09:57my first chance like to go to the quarters on on hard courts so also some
10:04nice tournaments you know and nice matches so yeah I don't mind I like this
10:07court and I think the only thing is that the surface might be different on
10:14different courts so next time I'll play on a different court I need to just feel
10:19it and focus on that a little bit more
