00:00The Department of Trade and Industry is monitoring the prices of prime commodities
00:04to possibly come up with measures to prevent them from spiking too much.
00:09However, due to the prevailing situation in the country, the DTI revealed there's a possibility
00:14that prices of some basic goods will increase but assures the hike will not reach 5%.
00:20BTV's Isaiah Merafentes has more.
00:23Aliza goes to the grocery store twice a month.
00:28Since many are living with her, she tries to limit their grocery budget monthly
00:33and she's worried prices of basic commodities might increase.
00:42But according to the Department of Trade and Industry,
00:45the prices of goods may possibly increase but the agency assured it won't go beyond 5%.
00:53Bread, sardines, noodles, coffee and milk are seen to high cost.
01:10Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture will set a maximum suggested retail price or SRP
01:16for imported rice at 58 pesos per kilo starting January 20.
01:23Currently, the price of imported rice reaches up to 65 pesos a kilo.
01:33The DA will also coordinate with supermarkets to ensure
01:36max SRP for imported rice will be followed.
01:39The DA has also started selling surit rice at 36 pesos per kilo.
01:44This aims to bring down rice prices.
01:54A full launch of surit rice is expected in the coming days.
