00:00Former presidential candidate and founder of the Taiwan People's Party, Ke Wen-je, has
00:04filed a formal appeal against his detention on charges of corruption.
00:09The Taipei District Court ruled last week to detain Ke and several others involved in
00:14the case after originally granting bail.
00:17The court said there was a significant chance that Ke may try to leave the country or tamper
00:22with evidence.
00:23But in its appeal filing, Ke's legal team said he was unlikely to flee Taiwan.
00:29Police stressed his strong connections to the country and the significant bail sum of
00:33over two million U.S. dollars could post it before being detained.
